I picked up an ES-335 today. Black Friday impulse buy. It's a '16 Special that came in the mail.

Really didn't know what to expect, but literally after one minute of playing it plugged in, I said to myself "SELF - WTF are you doing with a Les Paul? Enough of that. You're a 335 guy from now on."

It was immediate, overwhelming, real and (knowing me) - permanent. That's that.

    Has this happened to you?

Extra bonus note. I'm not keeping this guitar (it was okay, but would need some upgrades). I just fell in love with the platform. It's going back, and I'm going right for a standard issue Cherry 335.

I think the 335 is an acquired taste. For some it's a joy and others not so.

Yeah, I had a similar experience with a Canadian-made acoustic (can't remember the brand at the moment). It played like proverbial butter, and I sat there in the glassed-in high-end acoustic room with it for almost an hour. I walked away without it only because it was a 24.75 inch scale (and I wanted an acoustic that would match my Strat) and because I talked myself into believing that it played so nicely only because it was perfectly setup. I still remember that guitar.

That's just the gravy. I have my Strats -and one popular guitar is good enough for me.

Something magical happens with a 335 (I have a 355) when you're playing loud. The way it starts to vibrate. Awesome guitars.

I often say WTF when I pick up any of my guitars. It seems they become alien entities over night sometimes.

I've picked up a few different guitars in the last few months and there hasn't been any that feel like the good ole Strat :0)

There was one that was a lot of fun to set on my leg and play like a harp though .

But standing up an playing it probably would have ruined the experience.

I did the same thing when I bought my '16 ES-335 around 6 months ago. Just last week I dug out my Fender Champion 600 which I hadn't used for around a year or so and plugged the ES in it and it was seriously great fun.

I took a PRS off the wall in a shop because I was curious and wanted to see how it felt and was stunned.
I still haven't bought one but it's in my future.

+1 on the Jackson Rhoads. I met with a guy through Craigslist a couple years ago for a possible trade of his RR1 for my Dave Murray Strat. I fell in love with the Jackson right off. You do have to be a bit careful with that extended top wing but the neck on those guitars is the most comfortable thing I’ve ever played. The trade ended up not happening but I ended up going straight to a GC and traded the Strat in for a brand new RR1. I took a loss on the Strat and kinda wish I still had it as they have jumped in value due to the collectibility factor but I know every time I pick up my Jackson that I made the right call.

If I had to have only 1 guitar and 1 amp for the rest of my life it'd be a 335 shape and a HRD. I currently own neither one of those.

My Tele. Had played a Strat, was rather meh'd, put it back on the wall and saw that Tele.
Didn't like the look of the body shape, the color was awful - I call it Vomit Yellow, y'all know it as Vintage Blonde.

Picked it up. Played it. Bought it on the next business day. Still have it, still love it.

I say the 335 is the LP I always wanted. Looks like you found the same thing.
