I’ll take a stab at it. See what I did there :D

I used to work on cars, first when I was straight out of high school, I was a mechanic in training. I used a knife all the time to cut hoses to length, fuel line, cut damaged belts, clean gasket surfaces. There are hundreds of uses. When I switched gears and got into car audio and security, I’ll bet my use of a knife on a daily basis doubled. I used my leatherman a lot in that job (that lasted nearly 20 years until the beginning of 2000. I’ve never had a job where the tools were supplied. I don’t think that’s a thing with the trades.

I’ve been a software developer for the last 20 years. I probably use a butter knife more than my trusty pocket knives now. I’ll post some photos in a bit.

Yeah, I can see how it would be useful depending on the job. The only jobs I've had have been fast food (my first job) and then software engineering jobs. So I've never really had occasion to use a pocket knife at work.

I live in a peaceful part of the world, so I carry a Swiss Army Knife which I use pretty frequently - the knife blade to open boxes and clamshell containers, the screwdriver blades a lot, the bottle and can openers when I'm outside and don't want to go inside to get a more efficient opener, and every 10 minutes when I'm camping. It is no possible way a weapon. I keep my keys on the ring, I guess I could stick those between my knuckles.

Look closer, my friend... Top row, second from left. Brown stacked leather handle, Parkerized blade. USMC stamp on the ricasso.

Top row far right is a Gerber MkII a friend bought me to replace the MkI boot knife I bought on base in 83, which my girlfriend of the time 'appropriated' for times I wasn't around.

Next to it on the right is my vintage AquaLung "US Divers" Master knife. Bakelite handle on that one. A gift from my dive club when I got my Master Diver cert.

Lots more stories in and next to that case... :)

I always have a Victorinox Spartan with me, I use it every day.
    Screw driver in particular.
I've had it since 1980 something, most useful thing ever.
I do like knives in general, just to have, but my Swiss army is an essential item.
