Oh, a gun is a tool, too.

It's just a really long-range cordless drill.... except when it's busy being a deadly-threat extinguisher.

And I think it's pretty well established that "knives" (edged weapons) are WAY farther ahead in the "killed people" category than firearms will likely ever catch - - having a few thousand years' head start.

All weapons are also tools... and many people, too. :)

So how has making it illegal to carry a knife helped at all? Is it going to stop a criminal from stabbing someone? Apparently it hasn't worked so far.

Criminals don't care if it's illegal to carry a knife. Anybody that is of a mind to commit violence against another person without provocation is not worried about the legality of carrying a weapon.

Criminals don't care about the law, because they are criminals. So outlawing knives only takes them away from the people that obey the law.

I remember when pocket knives and guns were a right of passage to being a responsible young adult !

I use it at least daily, especially when working around the house. I do count using the bottle opener lol.

I do ascribe to the theory that it is better to have something and not need it than need something and not have it

Only in that if they are caught with a blade before using it, they'll be prosecuted and it does happen fairly often. Obviously it doesn't stop them all from carrying one.

I'm not an advocate of banning the carrying of knives tbh as I think the same as you but I also can't see a genuine need for carrying one around on a day to day basis either.

I needed to carry one daily for work for 30 years. I also just like having a handy small cutting implement with me.

I carry a SOG trident, a Glock 19, and a three pack of condoms at all times. Even when I’m just doing stuff around the house.
