I've got a Strat with 2 7/32" string spacing and one with 2 1/16" string spacing.
The action is the same and the neck is the same make and model even.

But what I nail on the 2 1/16", I just about manage to get right on the 2 7/32".
And just now, I missed a string with the pick on the 2 7/32". That hasn't happened to me in ages.

Am I the only one?

I mostly notice with right hand stuff. Scrawny necks that I like for most stuff, I have a bit less facility when hybrid picking than I do on necks that have slightly wider spacing.

I can't play 2 7/32" wide spacing, I had a Clapton Strat and sold it....strings kept falling off when playing.....

2 1/16" is the way to go for me.....

I have both vintage spacing and modern spacing guitars. There is definitely some calibration time required when I switch after playing one for a while.

Newb question; Which is "vintage" and which is "modern?"

My 2003 strat and 2017 tele both seem to have the same spacing. Lucky for me, I guess.

Yes, I can definitely tell the difference. Especially when hybrid or fingerpicking.

I don't notice it at all, but I play stuff with much more different than 1/16" string spacing all the time.

If your Fender guitar has the vintage bridge style then the spacing is wider between the strings than the newer Fender bridge designs.

I notice string spacing only near the nut, where my large fingers and close spacing don't get along so well together.

My preferred spacing is 35mm E to E at the nut and 54mm E to E at the bridge. I use fingers.......

I can tell on acoustics, but not so much on my electrics.
There are 12 string acoustic guitars with skinny necks that I can't play at all.

Then you can send your guitar to me for proper disposal.

No need to thank me, it's the least I can do. :D

That's pretty much my experience too. Particularly now that I've taken up fingerpicking (finally, I've only been playing for 40 years, I've been doing finger style stuff for about a year), I can really tell the difference on acoustics. But for just playing chords, strumming, and a bit of flat picking, not so much. And I've never given it a thought on electric...

Thats because you actually just play it instead of over analysing such trivial things ;)

When I switch between my LP, 335 and Strat, I know it’s there, but pretty much never even notice anymore. Now when I play my Rick Bass, I believe I am a few strings short.

My BrIan May replica has a nut that is 47mm wide. I used to notice a difference when I first got it, when changing between it, and my strat. I don’t notice a difference anymore, but between my vintage spaced strats and modern spaced strats, I do notice a difference with right had picking. Takes a little time to adjust.
