    .

I have bought new, but other than the first one that has been modified heavy, the others are new and in the case and give off this scratch anxiety. The used ones I get I don't worry about and so they get played. The used ones go through a rigorous rework and cleaning process though.

If no one ever bought new guitars, there wouldn’t be too many used ones out there.

Almost entirely used gear. I bought 3 new guitars as a teenager in the 80's; they were a Yamaha classical and 2 new electrics, Aria Pro II CS model and Kramer Focus 3000

Since that point I've bought virtually everything... guitars, amps and pedals as used.

I bought the new Monoprice 15 watt amp new a couple months ago but it was that heavy discount day....$123 plus shipping.

With the massive amount of used gear available I have a very hard time paying new prices...and I really don't buy that much stuff.

    Harmonica’s: definitely new.

I have no problems with used guitars, but the used market is very shallow over here, and the price difference compared to new is almost nonexistent.

I prefer to buy instruments that I like. New or used is decided on 1) what is available and 2) how much does it cost.

It doesn't matter. If I really like the guitar, I'll buy it.

When shopping at GC there is a good chance you will buy a new used guitar.

Both. Most of mine is used though. It is also according to if the used guitar is in great shape and not beat to death. Or a expensive used for cheap. Then fix some of the issues. New guitars are really nice too.

My Strats are all used or partscasters. One partscaster is all new parts. My acoustics were all purchased new because I had specific wants. As I sit here thinking about it I have never bought a used amp. All new.

Only ever bought one new, an acoustic electric I ordered when I taught lessons for.

I put together a jazz bass which the body and neck were new, so I guess that counts.

But buying used lets me stretch my money further than new. Warranties I couldn't care less about, since if there's a problem I won't buy it or can fix it myself. I also like to tinker and mod which would void one anyway.

To distill down the original question, "Do you prefer to buy new or used instruments?", the answer is clearly...

...yes, I prefer to buy new or used instruments.

Either/or, but I want to play it before paying, although I have bought a Jackson 7 string
and a Vintage brand LP online and love them both.

I prefer new. At least that way I know what's in it. And I buy to keep so I'm not worried about a depreciation hit. At worst I could break even on any of mine as it is anyway

Mostly new, I like a guitar to develop a history with me from scratch. Might not be the best option financially but, as I’ve only ever sold two guitars, that doesn’t bother me. Only two guitars I’ve acquired second hand were given to me.

I prefer the term "Pre-thrashed." Or, "relicked" if you will...instruments that already have their own mojo.

Good thing about most used instruments is, if you buy at a good price, and look after it, you'll get that good price back again if you decide to move the instrument on. In fact I don't think I've ever lost money on a guitar I bought used and then resold. Often I've made money.
