I'm still new here, but I couldn't help wondering why so many guitar players are spending so much time on this site when they could be playing their guitars, and then ... light bulb.
A lot of us hang out here INSTEAD of playing our guitars. I do play while on the Internet when I'm learning something from a YouTube video.
No, I'm not jamming while I'm perusing the net. I have been practicing about two hours a day though since about September.
No, I only play my guitar (on the internet) when in a meeting on Zoom (mike and camera muted) . The forum is too important to risk to multitasking.
I only play in the evening, because music gets in the way of all the important thinking I'm trying to do during the day. Whereas the internet is easier to turn on and off.
I don't play while on-line, but if I'm watching a movie, etc at home, I'm usually playing or just running scales. I can't just sit and do one thing.
Actually, when I'm on-line here, I'm often paying hooky from work lol! When we're watching TV, I often have a guitar at my side that I reach for to play along during commercials. I've got 30 seconds to figure out the key, chord structure, basically what's going on, and come up with something. Pretty good ear training, or so it seems. Bill, tgo
Speaking of commercials, am I right that Billy Joel "We didn't start the fire" is the same tune as "Snickers satisfies you"?
The truth is none of us play guitar. We are all on here trying to find out what the heck that intriguing thing on the wall/stand or in that case really is... Or how it should be put together again.
Yep....load up some amp sims on logic...some backing tracks on youtube....some random movie that you dont really care about with the sound a bit down and off you go.....
I live in front of my PC, sadly. So I do many things while online. * Raises hand * I download and save for easier viewing.
I have a real easy job and have tons of time to play online. Also after 30 years of playing I pretty much only play when rehearsing, recording or writing. Sometimes I’ll pick up an acoustic and play for 10 minutes or so during the day now that I’ve been working from home since last March but before that I’d go a week sometimes without touching a guitar.
I used to do this a lot. It’s very good training and helped me move past playing plateaus several times.
