Admin Post Local guy has this guitar listed with an original G-DEC amp and case for $150. I offered $100 and he said ok. We chatted a couple more times during the day and agreed to meet about 9pm about 45 miles from me. I made the drive, got the amp in the car and was just putting the guitar in. Handed the guy the money and said "here's $100, go ahead and count it". He says "what? It's $150". I looked at him rather sideways and told him to check his texts. He says "sorry man, I didn't even see that". I said then what did you say OK to? Anyway he was not willing to sell it for $100, took his stuff out of my car and got out of there fast. Needless to say I was not happy. No idea what the guitar is but it looked like it had interesting electronics, and the amp was worth $100 by itself. I didn't need another guitar anyway but I kinda wanted that amp.
Ugh I hate those people. Luckily I’ve never really had that happen to me per se, only had people coming to pick up something i was selling with a fixed price, then haggling again. Told them off and they paid the full price, but it must suck to have wasted time and fuel for nothing.
I'd have told him "look, I don't care what you say now, you agreed to it, you can't use the "I didn't see that" excuse, besides, you said OK, and there was only one question asked. I'm taking this for $100!" But, most people here don't have firearms lol
I had a transaction mapped out and mostly agreed to a few weeks ago. It was going to be a long drive and we both had odd scheduling stuff going on. We had contacted each other back and forth via text and I was waiting for a "Ok, I'm home, will be here yada yada" text and never got one........ Didn't end up doing the deal, no idea which of us was communicating poorly.
I had a nice trade set up a couple days ago. Then...crickets. I contacted him yesterday and he decided he didn't want to trade. It was his idea in the first place and he reached out to me. I kniw it's a free world but if you are going to back out of a deal then at least send a message. It's not like someone could yell at you or something. I'm getting more and more dine with people around here for sure. Ask if something is for sale, make an agreement then...GHOST!
Admin Post He knew nothing about guitars, was selling it for his niece. He still had the guitar case in his hand, snatched the amp out of my open car door and took off very quickly. I'm not pulling a gun on a guy for a guitar. I've done hundreds and hundreds of deal via text. I offered $100 and he literally said OK. He was just a bonehead.
I wouldn't pull a gun for guitar. Strictly a deterrent. But the idea of a phone call isn't a bad one. At the least, confirming the details one last time before you go to get it would probably not be a bad idea going forward. Like they do with a cc payment on the phone...XXX...XXX..and XXX...RIGHT? No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public at large.
Admin Post I generally trust people have read something when they respond to it. It wasn't THAT long of a drive, I drive that far quite often for guitars. The point of the thread was not coming home with the guitar lol. Just can't believe he missed the very first question I asked. Without that the rest of the messages didn't make any sense.
