Hi fellow Strat players, I know 68 is not "in the club" but I was hoping someone might be able to help. The Kluson F style tuners won't fit the peg holes on a 68, so does anyone know of a tuner that will work without drilling out the 3/8" peg holes? Just don't want to.....Mike IMG_1419.JPG

I'm afraid that there are no direct replacements for the first generation F tuners yet. Even the originals can vary, in their exact dimensions, depending on the year they were made.
If you can service the originals, it's your best option.

Reverb has the originals ranging from $147 to $250 depending on condition.

I've paid that for modern quality tuners for other guitars, so not ridiculous pricing (compared to other vintage tuners).

I really only need two, I've tried cleaning and lube, no real help. I'll check the reverb site, Thanks!

There are modern versions of those Schaller "F" tuners.

The modern repros all have this collar:

Early versions, like the OP's, didn't:

I replaced poorly functional original tuners with the modern repros. I did have to ream the holes to accommodate the collar, although not massively, and the result is brilliant.

But mine is a 74. I might be more reticent if it had been a clean 68.
