    Nobody ever mentions Arthur Crudup when Elvis performs "That's Alright Mama". I bet it was one of the first Rock n Roll songs, probably even before it was called rock n roll.

    I think he did a lot by transitioning from the skiffle era to R&R though, just saying.

    Certainly I agree with you, but he still helped a lot of us kids understand the basics and formation of music. I never really liked skiffle but I found it an easy transition to rock and roll.:thumb:

    I think Joe Brown did more. Dad was a big fan of both and played in a skiffle band too, so I lived with it from, well, forever.

    Look I'm in my 30s, so I only listen to those greats after learning of them from my favourites. But to answer who had a hand in rock n roll to me, it has to be Muddy Waters!
