Thank you, that is the exact point I was making. Minimum wage jobs keep fast food affordable, who wants to pay fifteen dollars for a Mc Donald’s burger made by some person who can’t drive or has no intellect, or desire to do more than flip burgers . We don’t have a right to happiness only a right to pursue it. It was the desire to better ourselves that built this country. And it’s the handouts that are killing it. Even the hippies were capitalists, remember Ass, gas, or grass ,NOBODY RIDES FREE. That’s life.

Folks sure leave out a lot of factors while dishing this homespun wisdom.

In my day, a person could realistically work at or near minimum wage and manage to work their way through a state supported degree. That is no longer the case. The buying power of minimum wage today is much lower than it was 40 or 50 years ago. Whether it's supposed to be a living wage or not is not really relevant. The wage has not kept up with inflation. To ignore that fact is ridiculous.

Unfortunately, it’s not those times anymore. Progress has pushed forward and it’s either get on the train or get left behind. It’s pretty much always been that way.
And if the minimum wage keeps up with inflation who’s gonna buy the expensive junk burgers they’re flipping, those people will be replaced by technology. It’s cheaper, and always on time , never has a bad attitude ad very efficient .

For the record I’m not unsympathetic of minimum wage earners plight, however it’s not a businesses job to make sure everyone makes a living wage. Businesses have usually two goals, to make money and keep customers coming back for more. To reach this goal they try to keep prices down and sales up. I guarantee you they aren’t losing sleep over burger flippers self esteem and living conditions. Those priorities belong to the worker. This is still the land of opportunity where people can achieve their goals if they strive hard enough to do that.

I find "No thanks" is much simpler than explaining stuff to people.

In 1979, minimum wage in California was $2.90. 2019 dollars that's $10.21. California minimum wage is currently $11.00
In 1988, minimum wage in California was $4.25. 2019 dollars that's $9.18. California minimum wage is currently $11.00
In 1998, minimum wage in California was $5.75. 2019 dollars that's $9.01. California minimum wage is currently $11.00

Looks like minimum wage actually has 10-20% *more* purchasing power today than it did from 1979 to 1998.

Why would I care what minimum wage in California is? Current Federal Minimum wage is $7.25.

And what was Federal minimum wage in 1979, 1988, and 1998?
I picked those dates simply based on being 20/30/40 years ago during years when min wage was increased... they were not specifically selected to force a desired result (honestly, I was surprised, as I did expect your statement to be more correct)

Seems like you’re vacillating between worrying about how much they make for a living wage and just not caring about it at all. So which is it, do you really want to raise minimum wage so guitar stores charge more or do you just not care except when it affects your purchase ? You brought up this topic.
So beside embarrassing you child , did you bother to take the time to explain that there are principals in life like don’t let people take advantage of you or did you just wait until someone ticked you off, and go off on that person.
If you explain that no one should get to try to pull that crap on you , maybe they wouldn’t be embarrassed.

You are beneath contempt. Implying that I am a poor father is so far out of bounds you can't even see the bounds.

    In your ear, sir.

At work now but I think CA is ahead of most regarding min wage and inflation.

Your kid doesn't know it yet, but you taught him a valuable lesson.

You are my hero. Warranties are basically insurance. For example, a $30 warranty on a $100 product only makes sense if you have a 30% chance or greater of breaking or losing the product.

But it would still be proportional to Free America.
While the cost of living in CA is higher (and thus, minimum wage), the inflation rate is still a national constant.

At least you didn't rip one in the store. That was always my sure fire way to embarrass my kids. They are all almost 30 now and I'll still do it, get the same response outta them too.

I merely asked a question, again you saw fit to bring these topics for discussion. If you felt insulted I can’t help that. I never said you were a bad father, but if embarrassing your child instead of teaching is how you do things , that’s fine.
