Nearly nearly finished my strat build. Tremolo arm will be reduced in length tomorrow. Luthier building me a wedge for lowering the action and angling the neck correctly .

Nice! After seeing the shorty bars I started cutting almost all of mine off and bending a new elbow into them and putting the tip on the shortened arm. I only have 1 arm that I use that's still full length now...that's not on a Floyd type, that is.

I've been pondering a Red build myself. I have a Hot Rod 50's neck in need of a good home; it's the same neck that went on my Black Strat build.

When I cut mine I alway
s cut them at the elbow then just bend a new at the end of the cap. No straightening at all.

Shortened arm .. So much easier to play and trem at the same time. Very happy with this simple modification

    You are here
I'd like to hear some clips when you can. I've been thinking of a dg20 swap on my Strat.

Since I couldn't install a DG20 rig on my red strat without routing the wood (an Eric Johnson body, so not an option,) I ended up installing my DAllen Echoes pickups from my black strat and put Mustang pickup covers on them - so now it has to look of DG's Red Strat but the sound of the Black Strat:

I have the DG20 set in my Strat. Well, a recreation of the DG-20 set in a different color and pickguard. For me, the jury is still out on the set. Of course, that guitar also has a Floyd Rose....

I have a set of EMG pups that my dad brought back for me from the US back in the 80s. I probably asked him for those due to an extreme case of Gilmouritis and me hacking at my guitar to mod that Melody into something it would never be.
Now I'm tempted to install the EMGs in my CAR MIJ 57 to go the full Red strat...
Anybody know how many different white single coil models EMG made around 88 or 89?

Mine got more or less finished today. Has .009 on but think ill stick to .010. Its an American Special US body. Had a Wilkinson trem on at first, but needed narrower spacing and had to cut a new nut. Besides the saddles was pretty crap on the Wilk.
My tremolo bar would not fit. Had to order a new one.. :) Other than that.. Stays in tune, even on Divebombs.

Did you use a string ground to the claw with your setup? I know they don't ask for the body cavity ground, but IME not having the string ground causes the pickups to pick up noise from you.

i removed the ground wire, its not required. check the video from emg where they show you the installation, you cut the wire and tuck it away in case you want to put other pickups back in later
