There was a time where Bread & Butter was difficult. But that was 55 years ago.

    Simple songs...simple form? Today?...No.

Singing and playing at the same time is very difficult for me. I can only sing the simplest parts over the simplest guitar parts.

I've tried, and given up on, Guenevere several times.

Do you have the tuning right? It's odd. EBDGAD.

Tons of simple songs give me fits. Sometimes I walk away from it for months, or years, and then it comes to me. Other times it doesn't. Youtube sometimes helps; sometimes they are all wrong too.
On Play that Funky Music, we always used two guitars. I played the main riff, which was easier to me than the other jazzy chords our lead player did. I was probably sometimes got sloppy when I took the riff up the neck when it changes keys, but with the whole band behind me and most people drinking, I never got any complaints. That is one of the songs that got a lot of people dancing most nights. That is just one song that is absolutely easier to make sound good when you have a great thumping rhythm section playing with you.

    All. The. Time.

@Mouse and I did a cover of Metallica's Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and I could not for the life of me, do that simple little intro part with the harmonics in time with the cymbals. Drove me nuts to the point I handed it over to him!

Trying to sing two songs at once is always gonna be difficult............Joking aside, I’ve always maintained that the art of writing a good, lasting song is to write something that sounds simple but interesting, even if no one, including musicians, actually knows why it sounds interesting! It’s only when a musician tries to actually play the thing that the complexity rears is head. As a drummer, Abba’s Chequetito (‘scuze spelling) defeated me for ages. There’s an extra beat in the chorus. Is it a bar of five or a bar of three and one of two or, perhaps, just a four + one? Still no idea, but I can now get through it. No shame in struggling with any number, we all have our own ‘blocks’.

I still have trouble playing songs I learned back when I was first beginning. It's like the mistakes I made then are ingrained in my consciousness now

Born in '57, so I was doing the deed to KC and the Sunshine band. And yeah, it was more of a 70's thing that ran over into the early 80's going through it's death throes. :D

You're right, not simple, but I've got that to a good point. I even throw in the horn blast at the break.
