I knew him BITD. We played the same clubs. In the mid 70's...It was Ed and Randy. I was an Ed guy.

I quoted an old tune at the end.

Many a tear has to fall....but it's all in the game.

A Van Halen poster hung on my dorm wall for the last two years of college. I was fortunate enough to see Eddie live 3 times, first in 1984, again in 2003-ish, and lastly in 2008. The 1984 show was one of the two best live guitar performances I've ever see (the other was SRV). The performance in 2008 was also memorable because of how "on duty" Eddie was--Michael Anthony was no longer available for backing vocals, so Eddie hung out at his microphone and was spot-on for backing vocals. I will miss him terribly.

I just changed my ringtone in tribute. RIP.

    Beautiful tribute brother.

I didn’t know him personally, but I felt as though I knew him on some level through the music.

I can vividly recall every detail of my surroundings when I first heard Eruption. Thanks EVH.

In many ways...at least for me...he was the Last Guitar Hero. A game-changer. Like Charlie Christian or Les Paul or Hendrix. Next level stuff.

I saw him play with Albert Lee and Steve Morse at the Malibu Inn. Now those guys can play anything...and when they'd trade fours with Ed he was a little out of his element. But in his bag...he was a giant. A humble giant.

I've just realised that for the first time in 38 years I don't live in the same world as EVH :(:(

Did not realize EVH was 65. I thought he was much younger. I never was an EVH fan but he is easily the greatest guitarist who has ever lived. Unparalleled influence. Unique and creative style. How sad that he died like this.

Gutted. One of the reasons I picked up the instrument. Hope you're jamming with my big brother upstairs. He's your ultimate fan. God bless!

I love this. That song was so upbeat and think you did a fantastic job showing your emotions through those few seconds of that rendition...emotions most of here are feeling right now. Well done!

    Damn...

Like everyone else, shocked and sad that we lost a "great"--I had to avoid social media yesterday after the deluge that followed.

To those that came of age in the 80's, he was their "Hendrix"...a true pioneer that influenced a generation of Guitar players with tapping and guitar mods galore!

And like the other greats, we still have his body of work that will continue to inspire.

    RIP Eddie!
