    Irked (annoyed).

I haven't heard 'irked' in conversation for years, now.

Anyone have a word that has faded from common use?

I have used irked here, probably many times.

I cannot wait to hear from our brethren across the pond on this one.

Also "you're welcome" has been largely replaced by "no problem".

I have heard a surprising amount of common courtesy from the fellow humanoids I see while shopping and such. I start and reciprocate as appropriate.

To the rest of them? WaveyFinger.gif

When I was learning Japanese those are the very first things I learned and all extremely common over there. They are super polite in Japan. I wish people around here were so polite. I still am, of course. That is how my momma raised me.

Carburetor. Nasty devices they are. Now limited to small engines.

Adjusting those on an actual car engine was the WORST! An air / fuel ratio compromise at best. An overly rich mixture was a given.

Then there were the mechanical spark delivery systems of the time. "Meh, that'll do". Who here has adjusted dwell angle and point gap? Then there was spark timing with the blinky light. I have...

ECU controlled EFI and spark delivery is SO much better.

I’ve done engine timing with the blinky light.

Was fine for a given low RPM spec. As RPMs rose the timing changed. The lame mechanical distributors tried to adjust for the rise, but were really not able to with any accuracy.

No longer a concern with now 24 year old ECU technology.

Those kids don’t even know how to dial a number on the rotary phone. It is hilarious!

I love that video. The way they keep picking up the receiver and setting it back down is great.

I think "irked" is still in common usage over here.
