I'm trying to find my own signature tone with my amps and fx etc. I got to thinking, I couldn't name an acoustic player that keeps their own recognisable tone from album to album.

Unlike many electric players. (SRV, Gilnour, Knopler, May etc)

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I thought Neil Young, Christy Moore but that's more playing style than tone.

    Hello,

All the electric players will sound like themselves when given a chance. Just because they don't appear as often on recordings playing acoustic guitars, doesn't mean that they don't sound like themselves...

Check out these guys for starters...

    Tommy Emmanuel

    Tony Iommi

    Pete Townshend

    Cheers,

I don't know. It's kind of like asking who has a signature piano tone.

Recording techniques likely more prominent, so the distinctive sounds are generally the old recordings. Like Django.

My oldest brother, who does not care for Led Zeppelin, says he loves when Jimmy Page plays acoustic; Page did get great acoustic sounds.

Keith Richards' signature- the distorted acoustics of Jumpin Jack Flash and
    Street Fighting Man?

There was also some little British band that were pretty good, the Beatles.
Lovely songs and great acoustic tones.

That's what I was getting. Acoustic players with outboard gear to get a signature tone rather than just an acoustic and a mic.

Who is this "Gilnour" person of whom you speak?

Seriously, I don't think a signature tone is something that you work on, so much as something that just happens.

I can’t stand more than two minutes of Page’s electric tone, but he plays an acoustic so beautifully. Go figure.

Eddie Cochran. More famous as a Gretsch player, he got a lot of mileage out of his Martin.

Which electric tone? It was different on every album, and even song to song.
