Beauty, real beauty. I wouldn’t mind having a well maintained 964 though.
Back around 1988, when I was still a young single guy, spent two or three weeks in the summer being the nearly innocent toy for a much older woman, probably in her mid thirties, which at the time felt like such a big difference. What an education she offered.
She owned and drove, and let me drive, her silver 1970 Datsun 240Z. That was the car that felt the fastest, even though it wasn’t actually the fastest. Felt like you climbed down into it, and your arse was an inch above the ground. Seeing out of the old sandblasted windshield brought guesswork and luck into the equation. You reached to put on the seatbelt, but it didn’t have any. It was quick, and had snappy but vague steering, plus there was the added exhilaration of what had either just happened with her, or of what I knew would soon be happening. Felt like we were going mach 2.
It was definitely hang on tight and enjoy the ride.
When I was 16 a family friend let me drive his NSX. Very memorable evening.
240's were great cars.
260's weren't bad but the 300's sucked.
If you want the impression of speed get into something older ... then hang on (yes... I'm talking about the car.... mostly!)
My wife bought me a few laps around a track in a NASCAR like track car.
500hp / 2000 lbs
Street-car wise: my brothers Porsche GT3.
A friend's 2006 Z06 Corvette is the fastest car I have ever been in.
Used to ride a 2006 Honda CBR1000RR and would routinely hit the rev limiter in sixth gear on a local highway.
You win this thread from my point of view. Those M1s were epic.
1971 Chevy Nova, 350 HO engine, 400 Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, tuned so there was absolutely no hesitation taking the gas. Had it to 125 once and decided if it went any faster than that, I didn't want to know...
Fastest ride? De Tomaso Mangusta...spanking new.
Beyond that, just about every American "Muscle Car" from 1959-1973...my Dad was in the car business.
Fastest owned? Probably my 1) old '63 Corvette roadster--w/solid lifters; 2) my current '00 Mustang GT; 3) my long legged and long lived '68 Chrysler Newport 383HP. Somewhere in that mix there was also a 460 Ranchero (a beast with traction issues) and a couple of Moto Guzzis that always proved faster than they looked, especially in the twisties.
I wanna know ...
Did it have air shocks ?
Any pics ?
I was going pretty fast when this happened.
Went airborne and knocked the bark off of an oak tree a few feet off the ground
Porsche 930. I used to work at a Porsche/Audi Jaguar dealer so I got to drive a lot of really nice cars. One day a local wholesale dealer came in and tossed me keys. See how like this one he says... I knew it was going to be fast but I Holy cow, that thing was fun
You made it in a Skynyrd song !
'69 Mach I , not the fastest car in the world but I loved it.
OK, but how fast was it?
My Toyota truck does 110 mph, that's the fastest consumer car I have been in, that I know of.
It was a dark period of my life man !
Thankfully I didn’t kill anyone during those times .
Substance abuse and poor judgment is a terrible thing
Probably the 370Z I used to own
I’ve been on that road ......
