Feels Like A NGD!

So I bought this a while back. A 2012 Mexican Standard. After a good clean, replacing some metal work and a bit of fettling with the neck it played great. Sounded **** though! Ceraramics have their place but those were cheap ****.

Anyway's I procrastinated enormously about pickups. Should I go for Fenders, Toneriders, Q's etc? In the end finances dictated that I couldn't go as daft as I usually do when upgrading my guitars so I plumbed for a Fender pre loaded Tex Mex pickguard with full aluminium shield. I thought stuff it!

Wow, quite a sound! Tex Mex's would be my last choice normally but they don't sound too hot or harsh to me. They sound great, better still to my surprise the 2nd tone was already wired to the bridge. Saved me a job and the black pickguard is a different look.

I'll give it a good run out tomorrow when the other half and daughter are out.

A good setup and new pickups can indeed make a guitar feel like it's brand spanking new, and those Tex Mex are great pickups regardless of what their lower pricetag might suggest.

Have fun with your "new" Strat.

I did a partscaster with a set of Tex Mex. They're great pickups at any price. Congrats! Like the color.

After a nights sleep I swapped the supplied cream plastics, which I thought were a bit too cream with the original white plastics which I'd kept. Looks more in keeping with it's age and the colour of the nut. Sounds daft but it just didn't look right.

Just running them through they're sea trials, so to speak! First impressions are really good. Not as much high end on the bridge as I was led to believe which is fine as I normally roll the tone off a bit anyway. They sound all round Strat like to me although nowhere near as glassy and smooth as my CS69's, bit of a hotter edge but I like it.

Thanks, sought some expert advice here about that. Turned out super quiet, especially with the full aluminium guard.

Nice! I love that Midnight Wine, have an '06 Std Tele in that finish. Like you, I didn't care for the stock ceramics, so I opted for a pair from Bootstrap called "Extra Crispy". Only $45 for both and they sound fantastic.



May change to a pearloid pickguard later to match my '98 Std Strat in Midnight Blue (with a '91 AmStd neck and EMG SVs and DG-20 controls), not sure yet.

The main reason I bought the guitar! Had a really nice dark rosewood board, had to have it. Not a fan of laurel or pau ferro.
