I can't decide. I sold my PRS and am looking to buy a nice Telecaster in the Original line. I like the 50's for the fat maple fretboard, but I just LOOOOVE the look of the Lake Placid Blue 60's Custom. I just really wanted a Tele with a maple fretboard, but I can't find one I like with something other than Butterscotch...
Tele? Maple fretboard, no-brainer. A Tele with a rosewood fretboard is blasphemy. Just sayin’ [emoji41]
I owned the Am Orig 50's Tele and it was awesome! I bought and returned 3 Am Orig 60's LPB Teles over a 4 week period. Everyone of them had fret rattle and buzz from the 10th fret to the 21st on all three wound strings. The only way me or the tech could get them to stop was to crank the action to over 1/8" at the 17th fret. This is over double Fender's recommended specs. I bought an Am Orig 60's Strat last month. Exact same issue. It got returned within 24 hours. There was another member who posted the exact same experience with an AO 60's Strat. I am not sure why 4 AO 60's Fenders all gave me the exact same problem or why the AO 50's Tele played like a dream and could be setup as low as you wanted with no buzz. All I do know is that I am done with the AO 60's line from Fender.
That is crazy! I would probably order a 60's and give it one shot. If I had rattle issues, I'd return it ASAP. But, I just don't like Butterscotch. Is there a Maple board Tele with Nitro in their high end offering?
Fender instruments with a genuine custom-color finish other than Blond were a fairly rare occurrence in the ’50s. the 60s the color chart came out.. rose wood tele is not odd. That is a 60s tele. A 50s tele in a color other than blond however ....is very odd.
I like them both, no hesitation, besides a setup that you may likely need, they are top notch and quality materials...
I have gave up one some of the big box places after having to send back two guitars. fwiw I saw the thread because I have gas for those AO 50s Telecasters.
I got no issues with the big retailers. I’ve bought 11 other guitars (Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Fender and PRS) from these three over the past three years and every one of them were great.
Right there with you...big box places only if the deal is irresistible.... Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
I have the same model in Fiesta Red and love it to pieces. Pickups sound great, the neck shape and size are about perfect for me, and the double binding looks so nice. The only mod I made to mine was swapping the saddles for a compensated set from Marc Rutters. But that's a personal preference. Best of luck to you!
