    Hello ,
Would you guys consider it a sacrilege if i just bought a budget body from ebay to use with my fender mim neck for the purpose of just having a lighter guitar?

    Thanks forbyour opinions

Nope! I have a Fender neck on a GFS body and had one with an Eden strat body from Ebay. The way I see it is parts are just parts. If the end product is what you are looking to achieve then it's probably going to be a good guitar. ;)

And you can probably sell the MIM body for more than the cost of the new body.

do it. As long as the neck pocket is snug, not tight, it's all good.

but bodies that are really cheap are often that way for a reason. Be careful.

Thanks for your replies guys. That neck is so nice to play but the body is heavy and my back hurts.

ALL the body does is hold the "stuff" in the correct relative position.. so it doesn't fall on the floor when ya pick it up, and it can be played when plugged in,,. ANY other attribute is purely subjective and has no real impact on the guitars ability to be used as intended..

So if the neck fits and the bridge, whatever kind it is is the correct distance away from the nut... go for it..

The sound unplugged may be a little different, lighter bodies tend to feel more resonant. Many people can't hear any difference in the plugged in sound, but that doesn't mean you won't. But it does mean the sound changes are probably less important than your comfort.

The other issue is that some of the really light woods don't hold screws very well.

I have a GFS paulownia body (left side in my avatar) that was from their closeout sale. It's very light but it also dents very easily. I call it "self-relicing".

Only my opinion, but the only important specs of a strat/tele body is the looks or functional specs (routed for SSS, HH or whatever you may NEED). I personally think it's nuts to pay $350 for a Fender USA body when you can get a Fender MIM body for half that. I understand I'm in the minority on this.

This is the only caution. Most Fender made or imported guitars have a pretty high degree of interchangeability of parts. But not all models or all parts.

I'd suggest verifying the dimensions of the neck pocket of the body you plan to buy vs those of the neck you plan to use. Better safe than sorry.

Nope.. not alone... I've assembled a handful for guys using the MIM bodies and necks and for the life of me cannot see any reason to pay double for the same part made on a CNC located 150 miles north of the Ensenada CNC.

Using all OEM Fender parts, and concealing a couple of visuals, meaningless visuals, you could not tell it from a CS guitar made to the same optics specifications..

I had a $400 neck on a MIM Fender body for a few years. It was uncanny, really - it played, sounded, and felt just like a proper guitar.

In all seriousness it became my #1 gig machine for a LOT of gigs over a few years. I never once thought about whether I was breaking some rule that Internet forum participants would scold me about.
