What are your guys' opinions on the recent price increase for guitars from Fender? Player series guitars are now 800$! Even Squier bullets are at the 200$ mark

    I think it's ridiculous!
The worst part is what it is doing to the used market....
The old Mexican Standard Strats were $499 + tax new.
Because the newer Player Series sell for so much more when new, people are listing the pre-Player series standards for more than they paid for them new!
People around me are wanting $500-650 for pre-Player series Strats.

This has been happening with the short lived highly praised AV series vs AVRI series.

When the American Vintage series came out they were list at $2599 or so which was a massive jump from the previous avri series.

Guys were listing the previous avri stuff at what the American vintage stuff was selling for used thinking, same guitars right.

Now fast forward a few years and the used market for the AV and AVRI are pretty much the same as far as sold prices.

I think the exact same thing will happen with the new and old MIM stuff. It gets all clumped together as one so in the end guys are paying almost retail or more now for what that older MIM sold for originally.

Win win for the seller I guess.

Fender isn't the only one. Quite a few manufacturers have increased prices by 10% and more lately. Labor and raw materials costs have both increased so it's to be expected.

Also, when prices for new gear increase it's not at all uncommon for that to drag the prices of used gear up along with them. I can recall quite a few items I've sold for more than I paid for them.

Supply vs demand is also pushing the prices of used gear up due to the many back orders for new gear. If you want it now and it's on back order you pay what the used market will bear.

    Inflation, simple as.

Material costs are up, labour costs are up, transport costs are up, energy costs are up… Fender aren’t going to take all of that up the butt without passing on some of the pain.

On the brighter side, Strats are still cheaper now than they were in the 50s and 60s.

A guitar playing buddy of mine blames inflation. It's his opinion that guitars aren't any more expensive, just that money is worth less. While I know inflation is a thing, I don't think the dollar has been devalued that much. It's my opinion that companies are just capitalizing on the demand. Just like used guitars being way more expensive. If there were less demand, it wouldn't be so bad. I've been seeing some George Lynch signatures that were 500 new selling for over 1000. Makes me with I had pulled the trigger on one back then. Anyway, I'm no expert.

Everyone has an opinion! Your opinion might just be that you don't care. I think that qualifies as an opinion

I’m beginning to feel my American standard new in 2013 for $1100 with tax is looking like a good deal

I only paid $250 for a 1973 Strat in 1988. Why isn't it still that price?

I was going to also say the materials & labor shortages may be one factor. I'm worried that prices may stay up though, because companies might get used to the higher prices.

Maybe you don't know what "opinion" means.

    Go opine on that.

My opinion is that more of us should reserve the right to not have opinions on so much stuff. It's very unbecoming to always be "weighing in" on all the inannity.

Just saying. That's an opinion. I won't argue with you about it further, though. Lol. It's just that saying you don't have an opinion is similar to saying you don't have a thought. Everyone has thoughts about things, even neutral ones.

I literally have zero thoughts about the thing. Zero f##ks given.

    I prefer interesting topics.

Maybe @guitarface can start/not-start another topic for feather ruffling. That's always interesting.

I don’t buy new guitars from Fender very often. Not too concerned.

So what can I get for my really nice 2006 fender 60th anniversary strat. Just a regular mim, not the special anniversary issue. I think it’s called midnight wine (depending on lighting it looks anywhere from black to red). Very good condition no dings.
