To correct you, Australia are actually sixth in the FIFA rankings at the moment.

But you are right, the Women's Australian team were beaten 7-0 by a team of 15 year old boys.

    Oh for crying out loud.

The only forum I ever use (as opposed to lurking here) is an australian football (soccer) forum and it's become unbearable lately with people feeling they need to jump into threads to denigrate women's sport. I got bored with that so had a look at strat-talk and see this crap. You don't have to watch, you know?

Anyway, the Australian team play Brazil tonight. We have a good recent record against them but our form has been horrible in the last year. We really need points after the loss to Italy but I have a bad feeling about it.

It's on at 1:30am local time too so pretty unlikely I'll get to watch.

10 million people in France tuned in to watch the opener, over 45k were in the stadium. I guess they didn’t get the memo.
I have no interest in discussing the merits of women’s football (or other sports) with you. You don’t like it, don’t watch it.
This is a thread to follow and celebrate this event. Any further sexist trolling will be deleted.

I missed most of the match, including the penalty. I’ll check the highlights.... I do hate it when refs get it wrong...

Looks a lot like the penalty awarded to Spain against South Africa)...at least the ref didn’t give a 2nd yellow this time, I guess. Yes, a bit much...

Whenever women’s football is shown on TV here (Ireland), there appear to be only two or three cameras covering the matches.

The great thing about this WC coverage is that it is being undertaken with full production facilities, with numerous cameras covering every possible view.

This TV coverage clearly shows the high skill of individual and team members.

It’s a great competition and well worth watching for any football fan. I certainly don’t consider myself as a fan of the spectacle of UK Premier League football, but this competition is honest and great to watch.

I thought the penalty was a bad call. She hit the ball and her follow though hit the opposing player. So what. That's sports. That said, France did play well and once they went up they were pretty much dominant.

Another really good game Australia V Brazil. End to end free flow football with a few interest incidents.

My only issue is that the game stops for a significant tiMessage while the referee checks the TV replays. It slows the game down and stops the progressive flow of the match.

The only argument in favour is that the chances of the correct decision being made are greatly enhanced. My own view is that the referee and two assists should be able to make a judgment call on the spot. These decisions have been made like this for years and, over the match are likely to balance themselves out.

    Great game again

Norway had 90 minutes to put up some points.
Their only goal was an own goal by France.

You feel better now, i guess! What a comeback from 0-2 behind! I am impressed. I watched whole game, match times are comfortable for us in Scandinavia.

I think as you about women`s soccer, it should not be compared to men`s, it`s another competition. And entertaining one, when seen in right way.
Well, Sweden will play Thailand next having beaten Chile in first game. I expect we will win, but no need to be as cruel as USA. 13-0...

I thought China's team played really well at times. If they can convert their goal setups better, they can be the team to beat. South Africa played with speed and determination. Every time they stormed out of midfield, they seemed to become disorganized. The game tempo seemed to move at 'breakneck' speed.

Maybe @Dreamdancer is not actually in Greece at all, but in a tiny cubicle in a massive Russian troll farm in Siberia, tapping away all night, trying to foment sexist division on chat forums in western democracies. It’s finally come to the lonely shores of little old Strat-Talk! They’re trying to turn us guitar players against each other! RESIST!!!

So far, I've tremendously enjoyed this competition, even though I've not had as much time as I would have liked to watch. Another 3 weeks to go. :)
