Hey guys, how are you all doing? I've mainly played Gibson style guitars, but have always loved Strats...the way they look, the way they sound, the way my knuckles feel after bashing into the volume knob. Ok, maybe not the last one lol.

I decided a few weeks ago that I want to get my GF's stepdad a body blank for Christmas as a project we could work on. In the meantime I figured I would put a partscaster together, so I could get a handle on the assembly/setup end of things first.

I've been getting together some of the tools I'll need and watching a ton of YouTube, and and other research, and stumbled across the wealth of information here in the process.

Anyway.. enough babbling.. here's the beginning. A '95 MIJ 1962 reissue body that I'll load up to original-ish specs.

I've got 2 more partscasters coming to me in the mail, and I'm already eyeing up another maple body I found online.. I may have a problem

I hope everyone is doing well, and once I get rolling, I'm sure I'll be back with a ton of questions!

    Rock on,
    Alex

    Hi Alex, welcome!

Do you think you will shield the routed areas on the body? I haven't myself, but a lot of people do. Something to consider at the beginning.

Wow, Alex! What a great start.

I too have been a Gibson guy. But it's way easier to part a Fender. And make it you own. !!!

Can't wait to see how it comes out.

Thanks guys! Yes, I'll definitely be shielding it, just haven't picked up the copper tape yet. I'll be sure to document my progress though

Thanks, I feel at home already!

And you say "post MORE pics!" :D

Ok, well since you put it like that.. here's partscaster #1 which arrived yesterday- a squier affinity strat body w MIM fender neck and a road runner tweed case IMG_20200624_131702.jpg

And partscaster #2 which according to DHL will be here by the end of the day.
    anbrbhibryjzmcomcuvv.jpg

I'll be using parts from each of these to assemble mine. I can't wait to get started.. I feel like it's 4AM on Christmas before you're allowed to get up and hit the presents:)

I just learned something, darn you!

I always thought Gracie followed by saying "Goodnight, Gracie." According to one source, though, that's an urban legend. She never said it. The source says it was a Rowan and Martin bit from Laugh-In.

    So, "Say goodnight, Dick."

No, it's a regular maple neck. There's a flourecent light above that did that.. I didn't notice until after I posted. Here's a better one IMG_20200624_173233.jpg

    Thank goodness..that just looked hideous...lol.
Nice. The right lighting also shows the actual guitar color better...doesn't look so copperish. I liked the color before but it's even nicer in this pic.
