I think it was either Sabbaths Ironman or Fastways Say what you will.

    Last date by Floyd Cramer.

A friend of my husband asked me if I knew the words (there are words!) and I sang them and watched him play the riff on his guitar. I played the piano version for about a week then I bought my first electric guitar.

Great song. Didn't Emmylou sing it? I played with a piano player that used to do it, he sang it too.
    That's a good one. :)

    Ha. Double trouble? lol

Yea, I had just moved from learning chords on a nylon string to electric. My brother was listening to it in the other room and I picked that out.

2nd was Green River. Long, funny story on that but, right there, pentatonic scale. All downhill from there!

The first riff I ever learned was SOTW, but ive always played it wrong. Still don't know how to play it the right way. So I guess the first riff I learned was SRV cold shot. Is that even considered a riff?

    This. Way back in 1978.

Just wish I'd kept playing since then...I'd be either awesome now, or have ZERO interest in guitar. :D

Wow. Can't believe this didn't come up til page 4!

I learnt this in e in the open position on my first day.

That and "Come as you are" by nirvana.

Funny thinking back to how that day and a friend teaching me these riffs on his strat changed the course of my life.
