Being a big fan of all things Beatles and especially of George plus always having wanted a decent ES style guitar, Ive been looking at some Gretsches. I found this close to me; the previous owner added Kluson locking tuners which have left some holes in the back of the headstock. I don’t mind these at all though! It’s a Korean made G5622T; anybody got one of these? Opinions? Price is pretty good I think- with the hardshell case, it’s at 570, but open to negotiations. Would you try zo grab this for 500 Euros? Here’s two pics: C4FE4C37-422A-4ABB-B0B9-97423A915190.png 84AF0581-A177-46D3-9EA5-FA7CA5C82237.png

Closest I can come is the G5410 "rat rod". I had mine for a month or two, didn't really like it from the get-go. It was too big, too muddy sounding, I didn't like the pickups, I didn't like the tone and volume knob layout and wiring, the bigsby was too stiff. I was happy to trade it away.

But, the price here is fair, even if you don't like it you could break even moving on from it.

Fwiw, I LOVE my Korean-made Casino, the "inspired by John Lennon" model. Also love the Beatles and George.

Yeah, the potential resale value is important for me- I’d hate to be stuck with a guitar I don’t really end up liking and not being able to get my money back… I guess it’s a good price though, I’ll see what he says to 500 early next month. Thanks for chiming in :thumb:

I had a similar Gretsch for a little while (G5420T), and I also had swapped the tuners for locking tuners (Kluson, I believe). I thought the Blacktop FilterTron pickups were a bit muddy sounding (which I didn't like), so I had those swapped for a pair of TV Jones Classic pickups, which sound brighter. I've heard Gretsch themselves uses TV Jones Classics in some of their higher-end models. I think 500 is a good price though.

This model actually has Super Hi-Lo tron pickups, which are supposed to be more single coil sounding from what I’ve gathered. Anybody have these pickups in their guitar?

I have a Korean gretsch- the one that looks like a les Paul. Got it specifically because I wanted a Beatles-ish guitar. Great fun. Plays really nicely. Pickups are nothing special.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is going to try to talk you out of that one. :)

I joined the Gretsch club two months ago with this one:

    Amp With Gretsch.jpg

And, it's in the shop getting TV Jones Classics and new wiring (with a treble bleed) installed.

At the lower end (like this one), Gretsch makes some super fun instruments that are great to mod. A few hundred dollars in upgrades and I think they are on par with Gretsch's high end models.

The build quality--on mine at least--is really good.

And did I mention they were fun? They are really fun. It makes me want to get a pompadour and a sparkly jacket.

I will, however, say that changing strings on a guitar with a Bigsby is hands down the most irritating guitar maintenance I have ever done.

I have a 5420T as my number 2, and it's great. Go for it, absolutely.

I say keep it! I have a few Gretsch myself and really like them. This one (For some reason) Every time I pick it up I just have to start playing Charlie Browns "Christmas Time Is here" Give that tune a whirl on your Gretsch and i'll bet you end up keeping it too!! A (1).jpeg

I love my Setzer 59 Smoke. It’s so versatile. Plays like butter. Can wring so many tones from it between my Marshall tube (DSL40CR) and Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb Deluxe (new digital amp). I’ve liked every Gretsch I’ve played (admittedly all of them 612x models).

I have a G5422TG that I purchased about 2 years ago. Not quite the same as the 5622 as it doesn't have the center block. I had to pay US$599+tax and that included a pretty nice hardshell Gator case. For the price I think that it is a great deal. Not necessarily my favorite guitar but definitely a good value. One thing that I really like about this guitar is that the manufacturing quality is really good.

Have one and awesome, unmodified. It is entirely not a 335 style guitar at all.

That Gretsch is needs you to give it a good home.

Will you be able to live with yourself if it falls into the wrong hands?
