I don’t have social media except for LinkedIn and that’s for professional contexts.

BUT I just logged in and this is what came across. This is for you

Some people are just ****ing heroes because they were born to be ****ing heroes.

We should all be so lucky just to have contact with a ****ing hero at lest once in our lives.

I know I’m glad to have known heroes.

I've told you this before Nate. This is for those who missed it.

One time my Dad was telling Lee a story about his time in OCS. Lee kept drinking and listened to the story, then finally interrupted and said this:

John...I got shot in the ass on Saipan. Shut the eff up.

    That was Lee.

Despite his tough guy image (and reality)...I will always remember him not as Liberty Valance, or Ben Rumson...but as Kid Sheleen

I remember him as the guy who came to my show-and-tell in the first grade. :)

On Halloween 1966, I went up to Lee's door, dressed in my Batman costume.

    Me: Trick or Treat!
Lee: Oh f___. I don't have any f____n' candy. Be right back.

He wandered off in his house and came back with a boomerang.

Lee: Here. Batman could use one of these.

    LOL

I think the thing I took away was this:

We’re all only the sum of who we are and what we put into this life.

Lee was proud of his service. He used to say that that defined him. He had a bit role in the Caine Mutiny. It was one of his favorites. When he describes his ribbons on the stand...that was the real Lee.

Wow Fezz! You’re related to Lee Marvin? He has always been one of my favorites.

Cool. A boomerang is way better than candy. I made a couple when I was a kid, and had great fun flying them around a big field. I hope you enjoy(ed?) yours.

A few days later I was out on the beach throwing it around. Lee came up and said that he was trained by aborigines in the art of throwing the boomerang. He was a bit hammered.

Lee: Now I'm going to throw it out over the water, and it'll come back to me.
Lee threw the boomerang. It landed in the water out by the kelp beds that were beyond the break.

Me: When is it coming back Uncle Lee?
Lee: F___. Here's 10 bucks. Sorry Bongo. (That was his nickname for me. To this day I have no idea why.)

    Lol

Bummer. I've had a few kites break loose and go flying out into the Atlantic. All you can do is say goodbye. $10 would have bought a couple nice ones back then though.

Bongo sounds like a good name. I'll use it wisely.

Not related...he and my Dad were great friends. So...I called him Uncle Lee, because for ten years he kinda was like an Uncle. When he wasn't on location, he was always around and we lived next door to each other back when Malibu was a small town.

One of the greatest in the old western movies. What was that movie he played in with Clint Eastwood were they shared the same wife. It was something like paint the town red or something like that. They will never be another one like him that's for sure.
