No idea how it ended up where it was, but it was in a very bad spot. The middle of a parking lot and lucky I hadn't pulled in another foot.

Name him snappy, take care of him until he gets bigger, release before people start calling you Lefty.

He's cute. When I was a kid a turtle came up in my grandparents back yard. We took him back to the creek that was on the back 11 acres. A couple of weeks later, another one came up the pasture. Took him back to the creek also. After playing with him of course..

My wife and I came across the biggest turtle I've ever seen outside of a zoo a few weeks ago. We were riding on our nearby green way trail and had just passed this post about 5 minutes earlier, on our return trip there was a turtle the size of a manhole cover in the middle of the sidewalk. Can't imagine what it weighed but it's head was a big around as my wife's leg.

They don’t stay cute for long. They tend to have a cantankerous disposition

Let him get bigger then release !!

    .

They are pretty easy to keep and feed. Worms, bugs, and cat food. They like to feed when in water. Takes about thirty years to get the size of a football. A hundred to hundred and twenty years to get as big as a basket where they will bite into a broom handle.

Turtles can be sources of salmonella so make sure to wash hands well after playing with them.

My first encounter with a snapping turtle was when I was a young kid, playing in a creek/ditch behind my cousins' house (in Lafayette, LA). We saw it just under the water next to the bank, and it was big around as a garbage can lid. Being the dumb kids we were, we decided we should poke at it with a stick when it bit and clamped down on the stick and wouldn't let go. We thought that was really cool, so we struggled to lift it out of the water (barely could), but thankfully it let go and went about it's business and left us alone.

Moral: kids and big snapping turtles should avoid each other!
