Freebird starts out ok, but the guitar jam is so grating I can't stand listening to it. And it goes on and on and on and on... those same notes over and over and over, only faster and faster and faster until it feels like my head is going to explode, and I wish it would if it would stop the horrible noise.

Can't stand hearing Freebird ever again so I'll go with the other one even though I have never heard of The Outlaws.

Southern rock never really translated over here. It's definitely an American thing.

I’d never heard ‘Green Grass & High Tides’ before I looked it up just now.

‘Freebird’ has been on the radio here for as long as I remember.

So I’d have to give this one to ‘Freebird’ even though the songs have a strong resemblance.

I was kinda thinking along the same lines, but something like "would I rather smash myself in the forehead with a ball-peen hammer or a claw hammer?"

Back to my earlier comment, I'm probably leaning towards GG at the moment only because I haven't heard it a thousand times. I still love Freebird and since I don't listen to the radio (haven't been a fan of radio since the late 70s) I don't hear it all the time. I have a Gov't Mule station on Pandora and that's where the Outlaws pop up from time to time.

When doing a crescendo effort on rollers starting at 250 watts and building to 400 watts Green Grass & High Tides is the hands down winner for getting one through the last three minutes...

Skynyrd forever ! The Outlaws who I saw open for George Throughgood were nothing special . I couldn't wait for it to be over ! Maybe I'm missing something but they played far too loud and the music was nothing I would ever buy or listen to. That being said some amazing musicians . Especially the dual lead harmonies.

Wow. There sure is a lot of freebird hate around here.

    I'll take Freebird over GG&HTF

Still, Allman Brothers > everything. Including Skynyrd and Outlaws.

I'd like to know why this song wasn't more popular. I had never even heard it until I started learning to play guitar.

Well for me it's not the whole recording catalog, it's really two or three songs.

Since you brought them up...what's your favorite Mule song?
