I’m gassing for a stray with a rosewood fretboard. I don’t actually care if it’s rosewood- I care about the look. I want a nice dark, consistent rosewood. Seems like it’s getting hard to find. With a couple color combo exceptions, I hate the look of pau ferro. It also seemed like before the pau ferro, gender was using a lot of ugly, reddish rosewood.

I guess I just gotta play it in person before I buy and mostly look at American models.

If you look on Sweetwater.com they'll show you the actual guitar that you can buy and some of the pau ferro fretboards are surprisingly consistent.

Note how the third one from the left has a nice dark board - perhaps not quite as dark as some rosewood, but at least not it's not streaky like some pau ferro can get:

I will never get this, you like what you like and I like what I like. But I just don't get how you can hate the beauty and uniqueness of wood.

It shouldn't have to bother you this much.

I just got an American Original 60s series Strat, it has a beautiful rosewood fretboard.
I don't know if it's chocolate, it kind of looks like roasted coffee beans to me...very even, but there's always going to be some color variation.

    I bought mine from Willcuttguitars.com

    and

    http://willcuttguitars.com/fender-g...original-60s-stratocaster-candy-apple-red-550

both of these have nice boards, imho.

No...but, someone might. The point being the OP dislikes something others may like and one doesn't have to understand the other. C'est la vie.

There's someone for everyone.. I get the point, my point was merely that too many share this....Whatyamight call it? It's not a problem...Annoyance?

All I'm saying is that it's wood, if all wood looked dark and black, wouldn't that be boring?

It's about time to say goodbye to rosewood. All that beautiful rosewood of days past is pretty much gone. Rosewood smuggling has been depleting the sources of rosewood and the trees can take 100 years to mature.

Here's a quote from a National Geographic article I read recently. "So coveted is rosewood that it’s now the world’s most trafficked wild product by value or volume—more than ivory, rhino horn, and pangolin scales combined."
