Oh Simon, thank you so much for that reassurance, it means the world to me.

I feel your pain @misterwogan . My favorite scotch gives me gout, and I've lost the taste for beer. At least I still have wine.

If it hasn't been mentioned before, cured meats are actually bad for you. So there's hope for you after all.

A man I know just came from Nashville Tennessee oh
He smiled because I did not understand
Then he held out some moonshine whiskey oh-ho
He said it was the best in all the land
    And I said:
No no no no, I don't drink it no more
I'm tired of wakin' up on the floor
    No, thank you, please,
    It only makes me sneeze
And then it makes it hard to find the door.

Where is miss alcohol most, is in creative work. So maybe I could try Absinthe? Low volume, high impact, doesn't taste like sauvignon blanc.

    Worked for Oscar Wilde...

I'm not sure he's exactly a good role model, though I hear Reading is quite nice this time of year...

Don't tell anyone but I dumped the beer habit three years ago and 129 lbs of blubber went right out the window with it. Only took about eight months. Been working out and riding the bike ever since and feel great, better than I have since my 20s. And yes, that's easily over $2k a year for gear.

Want to lose interest in being drunk? The inner ear disease that was working hard to make me deaf also caused sudden attacks of vertigo. I still have some beers once in a while, but after the vertigo, I quit before I am swaying...

It's no secret that West Virginians are pretty much the first in everything bad: Diabetes, smoking, obesity, poor teeth... And last in the good category... Exercise... Etc. And WV-ians love to eat... No secret there... And drink... 100 kayakers on the river with 100 coolers full of beer... They take it to a whole new level...

Yikes, I only weigh 165lbs when I'm holding my bass, If I lost 129, the bass would be all that's left...
