I think they will be worth more. Rosewood is a popular choice so it will take some as they aren't exactly rare.

And where does it leave rosewood bodied acoustics?

I'd be happy with the ebony replacement.

Much nicer looking than some of those crap looking pieces of rosewood they put on expensive instruments.

Isn't Ebony a softer wood though?

What does look cheap to you? The dark red or light ones? Some prefer those...

I love pau ferro!! Would be great if Fender switched - would have little impact on tone but have nicer look and feel. Ebony? Eh - I find ebony fretboards a bit bright, in general.

'I always thought it was harder.

Seems plenty hard on my 1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio anyways...

Gotta say this makes me more interested in an Elite. I like ebony boards.

My understanding is that Fender is NOT planning to stop using rosewood on other US-made models... at least as of now.

All the big companies gonna change the wood of the fretboard for the most of their instruments in the future i think. Of course it also will be possible to buy for example a fender stratocaster with rosewood. For ever i hope. With this CITES convention every custumer that buy an guitar with an rosewood fretboard in the shop need a declaration for its own where the wood is coming from. That means a lot of extra work, especially for the manufacturer of the guitars. That of course costs money. The rest is self explaining... personaly i think it's a good thing. We have to be carefull to the nature. Now it's not too late, there is still a lot of rosewood trees. But it's time to put attention at this so that we have this wood still in the future on our guitars. Not like rio palisander for example...

Richlite seems to be good substitute.

No, a fair bit harder. More maple-like in tone; if anything a bit glassier.

The wood grain in general not the color. Some look poor just like other types of wood have variations.

Love Rosewood!! Figured this was gonna happen soon though....At least the Elites are going to Ebony instead of Richlite. Nothing like real wood for me. I was worried my new Tele might have issues coming into Canada but I got it before any changes :) Shameless pic inserted below!

meh... can't get to excited. i've played a few pau ferro boards and they were fine. for me strats should have maple boards anyways so no biggie. i have 1 strat with rosewood board so i'm good. not sure about ebony for a strat. i have a BC Rich Eagle with ebony board but that has humbuckers.
