I think they were the best in your face straight forward kickass Rock band of all time. Pete is easily the best at pure chord work in the genre. That Windmill?

I used to be a big Russ Ballard fan, and I know he was in Unit 4 plus 2 - so I guess that's him playing the solo. (Unless somebody has better information.) One of my favourite songs is "So you win again". Keep on rockin'!

This was it for me. I soon discovered "She Love You" and life was never the same from there on. It was not long before I owned my first electric guitar, a Rickenbacker 330.

    Thank you for that nugget!
I spent many happy times at The Barbican - free Jazz on Sundays, the most comfortable cinema in London, great concert hall. In the 60s there were some great pop films (not videos), but what would Pans People have made of that?

Totally agree. I was actually thinking about his playing style after I posted for a long while. His chord work an rhythm are just top level. Funny thing, he couldn’t play a lead line or solo to save his life. That wasn’t his bag though. And his compositional skills...the guy is a genius.

My Dad managed a music shop in my home town when this was released. A few weeks before, a local band called The Naturals had won a recording contract, I can’t remember who with, and were offered this song. They did a recording which was, honestly, better than U 4 + 2’s. It was to be released but this version hit the shops about a fortnight before. As it climbed the charts, the Naturals company cut their losses and shelved it.

    Yep.

I did like the lead work he did on Eminence Front.

Kenny Jones was the wrong drummer for The Who. :(

Jeff Beck's Bolero and PeterGreen's Albatross are also quite important tunes.
