Do any of you dabble in the 4 string black arts when the guitar needs a rest? If so what's your tool of choice? Here's mine.

I'm playing bass in an originals trio right now, using an old Kramer P-Bass copy through a Rumble 200.
I would love to have a nice Precision one day, the Kramer is fine till then.

I had a Rickenbacker 4003. I would like to get another one some day. Right now I have a Sterling Stingray.

Short scale, for those of us with smallish hands.

Or for Bass players who have spent the past 23 years playing guitar instead, as I my case.

Nice! Is that comparable in terms to the Fender VI bass?

2020 MU Tokai Hardpuncher (Pbass). It punches way above it's weight and its very heavy compared to my guitars. It was a COVUD buy to use for recording. Didn't record much with it but now I play bass in a band. We had three guitar players and no one else had a bass.

I learned to play guitar, electric bass, and string bass all at the same time.

I play that Beatle bass a lot these days, too.

I like the fender jazz bass, but for light weight fun:

That's why I've used the Yamaha BX-1 since the 1980's...light, great tones, solid neck, easy action...

I still miss my 63 P bass that I never should have sold.

    I first had a 1972 P Bass
    Then a 1963 P Bass
    Now a Squier P Bass....
I guess the answer is P Bass.....is there any other?

I had a Fender Jazz Base that I played for about a year when our bass player left the band.

I’d go with either Fender Jazz or P-Bass.

I play just enough bass to add to my home recordings. Back in 2014 I bought a new CAR Squier short scale Jaguar bass. Gave my full size P/J bass to one of my sons.

Actually the BX series is highly undervalued on the used market...you can get them cheap last time I checked.

Maple neck-through...2 8v neck...solid tones...I've played many a gig on one in styles from funk to jazz to country to ...rock.

Those Jag basses are really nice for the price. I've suggested them to bass students and they sound quite good.

Mostly they needed a truss rod adjustment and a little set-up. Nice for the $$$
