I went bass shopping for the first time last year. Aiming for at least somewhat familiar dimensions, I tried a couple of really short scale ones, including a really cool looking yet very affordable Gretsch (like the one the Royal Blood guy used to play). But for some reason I just could play in tune (intonate) on them. The open E was all over the place pitch wise depending on how I pick. Maybe it's not so bad in the mix, but just playing on my own in the store it drove me nuts.

I never found one to try, but I really like the idea of Fender/Squier Jaguar Bass, "32 scale and P/J pickup combination. Seems like the best of all worlds.

Anyway, I settled on a Squier CV '60 Jazz Bass. The long scale took time to get used to, but the narrow neck is very comfortable. And the quality of this Indonesian instrument blew me away completely. This poor photo doesn't do it justice.
I already used it one little clip.

I am primarily a bassist who also plays guitar rather than a guitarist who dabbles in bass. I've played both in bands but far more bass than guitar.

I can relate. Honestly I may have made more money from bass gigs over the years if you count how much I worked on bass from 1972-1997 or so.

I learned them simultaneously and think like both a guitar and bass player ...when I can think.

I’m the full time bass player within our jam group. Been playing bass just as long a guitar really. Always had a pbass, usually a reissue between 51 to 63. My current and long awaited 1960 custom shop is by far my favourite yet. Wasn’t really digging the heavy relic but it grew on my fast.

Here’s my setup. Don’t mind Charlie Brown’s shirt for a grille cloth! A14E9E39-DA74-423E-A363-362437261C79.jpeg

Not hurting for basses, one of these belongs to Boyo, one is getting all the work.

I am not a big guy, I do not have big hands and I have no trouble playing long scale basses. At the same time, I find the Jazz bass neck profile to be kind of puzzling and when looking at inexpensive basses, I thought almost everything was better than the Squier offerings. The Ibanez is getting played in the new project, the Yamaha has a really nice neck, the Sterling that belongs to Boyo both in terms of build and sound seems like it might beat up the other basses and take their lunch money. But it's Boyo's so we don't play it.

Black Fender P-Bass, maple board, 2013. Black/white now but i find that a little boring so going to black pickguard it. Very nearly new Squire "Classic Vibe" 60s Jazz Bass in Black/Tort. And a Yamaha RBX270 that I bought for 100 bucks on ebay (and its remarkably good).
