Well, here I was, psyched, stoked, excited, anticipatory, waiting on my first USA Strat from Musician's Friend. It is one of the lower end American Specials. I know they've been replaced, but I LOVED the Autumn Blaze Metallic finish! Any way, it arrived today and MAN was I excited! A brand new Strat from Musician's Friend!!! Then I opened the box... There are no words.

This is what it's supposed to look like...

This is what I got. Love the pickguard, lol, but what's up with that hole!!!

The ding on the back. It has buckle rash too, but I forgot to snap a pic.

    The pick scratches...

    Bait and switch?
Looks like they sent you a used guitar. May just be a simple error and someone else got yours.
I'd send it back or ask for a 75% discount (if you like it)

Looks like someone had it, swapped the loaded pickguard with a used one and then returned it. MF probably never checked it over that close to notice it.

Agreed - at least the pickguard was swapped (whether it was the fully loaded one or just the plastic); the one on there now has that hole for a pushbutton switch of some kind.

Considering those GC/MF autumn blaze FSRs were made in the summer of 2018 that's been hanging around for a long time.

There was some weirdness going on with them - I brought home one of the autumn blaze American Special Teles from my local GC to demo back then (wound up returning it and sticking with my MIM Player model) that had a rosewood fingerboard - the Teles were only supposed to have the maple fingerboard; running it through Fender's online lookup even returned a photo of one with a maple fingerboard. All I can figure is that specific Tele was a mix-up at Fender - they had some rosewood board necks hanging around so they used one of them instead of the maple board neck it was supposed to have.

I'd say you got a used guitar. The hole was in all likelihood where a mini switch was mounted. Was MF somehow thinking you might not notice the use?

I once got a Brand New guitar. ✋ [ NOT the mentioned Store ] ✋
When it arrived, it had pick scratches, a loose volume knob, jack port was loose,
and a pup mount had a couple gouges in it.

I asked if it was used but it was advertised as New by mistake.
    The response was
" No, it was a Demo just like everything we have. We can give you $X back, or you can return it. "

I returned it. Had it been advised as a Demo or Used, I would have made an offer.

I understand you predicament. That is not what was advertised and not what you ordered.
Send it back to The Mother Ship.

I was dumbfounded. Whoever packed it KNEW what they were sending. I knew GC took over MF some time ago, but dang.

It's on it's way back. I was really curious about the pups though. I would bet my Les Paul that they were cheap imitations and someone took the Fenders! lol

Back in the day I bought several guitars from MF but seeing this and similar posts makes me really leery to order one from them now.

Just a guess but if inventories are low both GC and MF will be sending out whatever they can lay their hands on to fill an order and raise cash.

Strictly from a business perspective they'd rather be the ones holding the money then negotiate some price reduction for having sent a demo or a customer return. Worse case scenario for them is they get it back.

I believe they may have a major cash flow crunch on their hands.

Anybody else noticing a full minute or so of delay when posting or loading pages?
    Server problems?

Maybe just overloaded with Saturday traffic, but it's been happening sometimes late at night too, when things shouldn't be super busy.
