I have been playing guitar for a little over 2 years and until recently my main guitar was an Epiphonel les paul traditional pro 3 that I bought new on a crazy GC deal for 349$. I love that guitar and I feel that is my " league " so to speak.
Through an amazing bit of luck I acquired a beautiful mij strat. I am sure I have found a forever guitar, it talks to me when I play and makes my heart go pitter patter whenever I look at her.
I think to myself sometimes, do I deserve this?
Then I say hell yes. Anyone else?
TBH , as I read the last paragraph I realized that I could switch the words wife and guitar and feel the same. I dont know if I should tell her the similarities >.<

In the nineties I was really into Joe Satriani, so I bought the nearest Ibanez I could get at the time to his , JS100 ?
Way out of my league !!! Unsurprisingly I still sounded nothing like him. :whistling:
    Sold it very soon after.
MIJ 62 reissue strat for me too, it's a keeper.

My first guitar, before I learned to play, was my '76 Strat that was a year so old at the time. If ever I was going to feel that a guitar was out of my league it would have been then, but I had decided to learn to play, and I wanted a decent instrument. So no, while there may be lots of guitars that cost more than I would pay for one, I don't think the "out of my league" thing would enter into it.

Probably my Pacer - I bought it intending to do 80's shredding and dive bombing. I played it for many years but never studied or learned that particular technique. I've always leaned towards Pop and Rock dance tunes which are more my style. I blocked the Floyd Rose very soon after I bought it once I realized that. No regrets though as it is a great guitar.

Every guitar I have ever owned is better at being a guitar then I am at being a player.

Well, maybe not that first Sears guitar...but it got me going :)

Every guitar I’ve ever owned has at one time been out of my league! Always seem to upgrade ahead of real justification in the skills department!

Every single guitar with the possible exception of my first horrible pawn shop acoustic with barbed wire strings and action about a half mile high has been out of my league. But I don't care, because they haven't been beyond my ability to appreciate and enjoy immensely. I've had fairly (not wildly, but it's all in the eye of the beholder) expensive and not very expensive guitars that I've loved and fairly and not very expensive guitars I didn't much like at all. I tend to keep the ones I like, regardless of whether we're playing in the same league or not. EVERY single guitar I've ever owned would sound better in the hands of a lot of players than they do in mine and also probably worse in the hands of another group of players. Everyone should play the best guitars they can afford and enjoy, and that'll probably be different for each of us.

Could not be better said. Guitars 17, Bowmap 1. They are winning.

EDIT: In the bottom of the 1st inning, Guitars 17 and Bowmap 2. Had a good a practice.

I've owned many guitars that didn't deserve me, but my choices pre 1979 were somewhat limited by cost and availability. :D

I've been playing since the late 50's, so having "vintage" Fenders around has always been a fact of life. One in particular, a 56 Mary Kaye, usually gest a lot of attention when I bring it out. But, I'm constantly surprised when I let someone sit down with it, and they refuse, saying it's way more than they can handle. Fact is, it's really just another Strat, maybe a little older, but certainly nothing they can't "handle".
Where does this thinking come from?

I won't say it's out of my league, but I don't think I'll hit any barriers with my LP. I bought it to grow into. Basically when I do something fancy it quietly smiles at me and says 'that all you got?'.

For me my confidence as a guitar player is low, I am by definition a novice.however that does not mean I do not deeply love to play. On some level I feel the guitar deserves better than me.
Then as I play and look at this beautiful guitar it inspires me to work harder
