    I'm in 10 now...

Here are good explanations as to why:

    https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-11-microsoft-stands-firm-on-hardware-requirements/

    https://www.zdnet.com/article/researchers-discover-seven-new-meltdown-and-spectre-attacks/

I noticed there are settings in 11's Edge that allow Internet Explorer "mode" if needed as there are some web sites and intranet pages that require the dinosaur. I did not see IE anywhere on 11.

The TPM requirement is a simple BIOS setting on the new board I just build onto. Sharks are already circling the uninitiated, with some already charging over $100 for the $20 Gigabyte 20(?)-pin board specific TPM module if you can find one. Glad the BIOS covers it.

I can add an 11th gen Intel CPU to unlock PCIe 4.0 when 11th gen prices come down. Will allow for RAM nearly twice the 2933 MHz in use now.

"So long as it does what I tell it to," in my case.

I dislike software that decides how I should work. I decide how my software works.

That would be iOS imwo. Windows 11 still allows you to be a local Administrator whether you know enough or not. Have not toyed with OSX.

A few images for the curious:

The setup graphics are totally different. Rather presumptuous to say magic, probably.

The "window" is now straight at you, no longer from an angle.

When setting up the Pro version you still have the option of creating a local account, not a mandatory online account like the Home version. I really like that a lot. Does a gentle nag with "Even better, use an online account". What does OSX require?

The very first screen you see when the install is finished. Looks a bit OSX, eh? Notable is the relative lack of junk apps in the Start menu.

No Candy Crush pretty garbage, except for Solitaire. Click on that and you get a similar casino-like welcome screen offering up a subscription for sh!t games as before. Easily uninstalled.

Windows bootloader creates a menu at startup to allow me to select which OS I want to use. Same as before. There are a few places to change how that menu works.

Can you boot into it without logging in?

Can you install it without giving an email or any nonsense?

8 was actually the last Windows I used. And then only briefly, on a laptop I dual booted with Linux. I tried to be an early adopter of 10 when the first trials came out, but the upgrade process went badly. Not only did I not get a working 10, but 8 became unrecoverable. So I made it Linux only. Maybe I tried to jump on the bandwagon too early, but I still wasn't expecting it to brick the machine.

Prior to 8, the last Windows I had used on my personal computers was XP.

I actually didn't completely despise 8 but, then again, I didn't really mourn my personal loss of it either.

I made 8 palatable with some major tweaks. The out of box experience was terrible for everyday users. Metro? Really?

8.1 allowed the masses to return to sanity, assuming they that skill set.

I've got an MSI B550 gaming plus board, I just had to go into the UEFI setup and flip a switch like you did. I like it when they make it easy.

It doesn’t offend me. I couldn’t care less about what browser you use.

I’m just not surprised that people aren’t willing to try new things.

I use three browsers Edge, Firefox and Opera for different tasks with Edge seeing the least amount of use.

I do not use Google Chrome.

The first unified and truly reliable Windows. No more garbage consumer (95, 98, ME) builds. All flavors of XP (and forward) are NT under the hood as it were.
