Well you said you paid $950 for it right ? That's what you said when you asked about it, so I'm confused....isn't that the insured value or what it should be??? $500 wasn't enough.....

What it's worth is subjective, but it should have been insured for what you paid....

The "crack" near the neck is very vommon on strats, you see it on most of them actually, even on some brand new ones and it's just in the finish and absolutely nothing to worry about.

The other damages won't affect resale value much, maybe $20-$40. A few dings are more or less expected on a used guitar.

He paid $550 for the guitar and another $95 for shipping.

So why then wasn't it insured for $650? The point of insurance is so he gets the total replacement value of every penny he spent, right?

I'm baffled why you bought a $500 guitar for $950, then under insured it for $500 and expected to get anything out of reselling it, even without the UPS relicing. Personally, were I in your shoes, I'd cut my losses. Go with the money back option and try to learn something useful from the whole experience.

He bought it for $550 and an additional $95 for shipping. I'm more surprised that he managed to talk it down from $950 to $550?

Firstly, thanks everyone for chiming in !

The seller didn't know what model he had, so I was able to talk him down from $950 to $550 based on what I had learned here (and through other MIJ resources). He had paid $850 for it years back, and didn't want to drop all the way to $500.

He only insured it for $500 because that's what we thought the item was worth. I could either take a FULL refund ([$550 + $95]but must return the guitar to UPS), or I can get my shipping money back ($95) plus the gig bag value ($40) plus whatever it costs to restore the damage to the neck/head/body of this thing ($???).

I am trying to figure out if it is worth the difference, here. The thing sounds super sweet, and I already love its sound.

Good to know re: crack, that was my biggest concern !!!

Well, the damage to me is really minimal - in the condition it's in I'd say it's worth like $450-500.....value didn't decrease very much if at all.....maybe $50.....

So it's up to you - to me I'd have to get like $50-100 if I kept it......
