    Hello,

If you had a Fender American Original 50 Tele, would you trade it in and pay the extra $$$ for a custom shop relic tele?

I think I can get $1,000 or $1,100 for my tele in trade in and the CS Tele goes for $3,600.

Depends totally on the guitar and if I like how it plays.

Worth isn't really quantifiable. If you reduce it to materials and labor, almost no guitar is worth what it costs. However, if you're basing it on purely subjective criteria, the masterbuilt custom shop tele an evil salesman asked me to plug in at Bananas at Large in Santa Rosa was definitely worth the $4500 on the tag!

Wow! I know that "relics" (as in naturally aged over the years) are popular, but I just cannot understand buying a brand new guitar that is cosmetically beaten up to look old and heavily used. My opinion of course, so don't shoot me! But I sure wouldn't make that trade!

The CS produce guitars that leave people satisfied thinking this is the best instrument I've ever played.

So test the guitar and feel it out, judge it and ask yourself is it worth it?

I am normally with you on that, but the entire feel of that masterbuilt thing was incredible. It was light, resonant, almost played itself, and sounded like the entire heavenly chorus! I've had nightmares about that guitar!

I wouldn't give up a guitar I really liked for another one that I might not like as much, or in this case would cost another 2000 bucks unless I was head over heels with the new one

I don't have any Problem answering that question and I would say NO , It don't get any better than a American Original 50's in my humble opinion. But everyone has their favorite fender guitar so that's cool too I mean a custom shop would be great to have, but a guitar can only be so good But the good thing for you it's kinda a win win situation. Good luck

I wouldn't buy either, to me it's a complete waste of money.

Play it and see if it's worth spending $2000.00 more for it. I have two Custom Shop Strats and they are the best Strats I've played and worth the extra cost to me. You will know as soon as you play it. ENJOY!!!

    There's your answer.

I built these two. Pine bodies. One has a James Burton Standard neck, the other an allparts TMO FAT. I wouldn't trade them for anything. ;)
