I bought a 1960's reissue strat and im unable to locate a serial number. I removed the neck and it was not on there, or on the neck plate. Could it be hidden somewhere else. Thanks

It should be on the headstock of that guitar. Is it a Mexico made (MIM) Strat... or an older MIJ (Japan) 60's reissue.

The end of the neck is were they put dates, not serial numbers. Fender put Serials on the Neck Plate only up until 1976.

After that it was moved to the headstock as a decal, some on the front and some on the back.

It should be obvious, unless it's not a real Fender.

It doesn't sound like you bought a real Fender guitar.

Fender's all have serial numbers and all newer ones say where they have been made. Both items are not "hidden" in any way.

Post some photos and we'll try to help.

The pickguard at the treble horn and backplate string holes look wrong to me. And it doesn't look like the saddles are stamped "Fender"

The serial number should definitely be on the back of the headstock. On the front for MIM.

I don't think 60's RI had CBS headstocks, but I'm not much of a Fender historian or anything so someone else might chime in on that.

Well, the headstock's not right for a Fender 60s reissue, and I'm pretty certain the body would have had to have been rerouted for a humbucker. The body is also veneered, as the tummy-cut is blacked out. I think it's a parts-caster and wouldn't have a guess as to how many of the parts, if any, are Fender.

Of course, that doesn't mean it's bad, but it doesn't sound like it's what you thought.

....it doesnt look like a real Fender....
the headstock isnt right for a 60sRI (unless its a CIJ 68 RI)

and i always thought Fender necks had the walnut stripe on the back? (ive only seen a few without)

Im guessing its a partscaster

However... Fender dont put serial numbers on the American vintage range right? (but if it was an American Vintage model, its wouldnt have a HB and that neck)

that's not a CIJ 68 RI either - those have writing below Fender logo. there shouldn't be a stripe incidentally. CIJ serial number is on the back of the neck close to the body.
dots on fingerboard are wrong too. tuners look wrong as well.
see the following for extensive pictures:

err...... sorry

Ouch... I'm no expert and it could have been moded, sanded and repainted or something but I'd venture to say that is not a fender (or even a squier) at all.

At face value, looks like you have a non-fender parts guitar there. I hope you are able to seek some recourse from the person who sold it to you, like a refund if it was indeed represented as an authentic Fender.

4 years?

well, I hope you post dated the check!
The strings might be Fender but unfortunately - even the decal is a fake...
How much did you pay for this , and where did it come from?

Again, the OP hasn't been active in these forums for 4 years. I doubt you're going to get any answers.

Might be a good idea to start a new thread? You've brought back to life one from 16 years ago!

I was in my 20's when this thread started......good times.
