Anyone buying the new Hendrix Flying V from the Gibson Custom Shop? Quite the steal at only $9,999! https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/CUSGE9325/Jimi-HendrixTM-1969-Flying-V/Aged-Ebony
I know I am not Gibson has been all over twitter going "Jimi was a Gibson man". My question: did he play authentic, though?
Those are going to sell out for sure. Theyll probably all be pre ordered. Especially with some reverb sellers who I know will buy more than one, sit on them for a few weeks and then list them for even more than 10k. Thats what I remember happening with the Tony Iommi Monkey SG
I find this continual profit-grab from Jimi's legacy so distasteful. For the most part, Jimi bought his guitars from a store, like the rest of us. There was nothing special about them, apart from the man playing them. Anything with the Hendrix 'brand' on it has been licensed from the Hendrix estate – basically a bunch of money-making opportunists who can't believe their 'king luck. Would I like to own a 1960s Flying V with the same spec and a serial number close to Jimi's? Yeah! But this new guitar is just a rich man's trophy. Hang it on the wall.
...and greedy eBay sellers to buy a few (several?) and charge a premium on top of the Gibson fleecing. Yay capitalism!
I believe there are people doing similar things with new editions of luxury cars. They pay the deposit and get on the waiting list, then sell the car before it's even off the production line to someone with lots of money and no patience. Yeah, I can see how very rich people would pay a premium to own a high-performance toy before all their luxury yacht-owning buddies own one. But, I fundamentally dislike the 'luxury' concept if it means sticking jewels and expensive metals all over something to jack up the price. Things I'd love to own include a 58 LP, but I don't want someone to embed it with $1M worth of diamonds to make it 'special'. That's just wasting money because you can.
coupd always put a wammy on this 20 year ole v 1991 Gibson Jimi Hendrix Flying V - Only 400 Made - With Original Case https://reverb.com/item/37135621-19...are&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=37135621
1977-ish. The PITA guitar shop customer is me posing with a new V. Not a comfy play on your lap guitar for sure.
Very cool. Im sure you've heard this before, but theyre more comfortable when you sit with them if one wing is under your leg
Don't think I knew that... I never got that far. I was just being an obnoxious punk poser. Ah, I'm a left leg player. I was not then.
