    Hi all,
I'm just getting into playing again after a 15 year break...

... and my playing shows it.

Last week I bought an Ultra-American Strat (Ash Tobacco Sunburst) with a amp which is too big and loud for an apartment.

I have a Mexican Strat and a Epi SG. Looking at this site has me thinking about 'upgrading' the Mexican Strat: new pickups, etc. Anyone ever done that and found it worth it?

    P.S.
What strings should I get for my new lady?

    Welcome to the forum.

I had an MIM with an HSS configuration and I swapped out the pickguard for one loaded with a Fralin split rail blues set and it sounds and plays awesome! Another good choice, if you've got SSS is to swap it for a loaded guard with Fat 50's.

    Welcome!

Same story here basically. Played/stopped playing/played/stopped playing longer than I played/ playing again now lol

You have the Ultra, I wouldn’t bother the MIM, I’d play it how it is, or sell it, but thats JMHO....

You see, single coils are known to 'hum', as in 'buzz' – and... well – I don't quite know the technical stuff... – but essentially, the two pickups are wired in such a way that the buzz, or 'hum' is cancelled out – they 'buck' the 'hum', essentially – and thus, do not buzz.

    Or something like that!

    Noiseless... interesting.
Are lace sensors still around? I bought them to put on my MIM 20 years ago, never put them in. I have always loved Clapton's Lethal Weapon sound. I figured that was a first step to copying it.

A fine choice having taken 15 years off. I've gone years not playing myself.
