Hi, Saying hello from Malaysia. Finally bought a strat today. Been lurking in these forums for quite a while and benefiting quite a lot from your discussions. So when I finally got the strat it is only appropriate that I join strat-talk to at least share the picture of my strat. I got this (1990?) Fender American Stratocaster for a good price of MYR2.8k (USD689.00). Its condition is 9/10. The backstory to this is that, 2 nice young ladies whose parents own a small music school here found this guitar in the school's store room. According to them it's been there untouched for more than 15 years in a fender hardcase unopened until recently. As they are asked to sell all the old instruments, they put it on FB (not fb marketplace). I saw the posting yesterday. Today after inspecting the guitar in person, found it to be to my liking (authentic?). The only defect is a small crack at the plastic pick-guard screw-hole near the bridge. The rest is minty. The original moulded hard case is a bit rusty at the latches (our weather). All the electronics are still good. The string action is very low. Sending the guitar to a tech tomorrow because of slight buzzing of the 4th string at the 13th fret. Any comment on this strat will be very helpful. I could post more detailed pictures if you want soon when my tech guy do the settings. Cheers.
Wow! Awesome find, and welcome to the club! Incredible that it has sat that long and you're the guy who gets to start the next chapter. One of the greatest things about Stratocasters is that every piece of them can be replaced... if you choose to do so. I think I see the crack you are talking about on the pickguard... not a huge deal and it's easy to replace a pickguard if you think it's necessary. The first thing I do when I get a new guitar (after I play it of course, if it's playable) is take it almost completely apart, sometimes completely just to give it a good inspection and find little nuances that may be specific to only that guitar. Sometimes you will find a defect or a previous customization that will make for a good forum post for the community here to chime in on. Ultimately, taking it a part forces me to put it back together and set it up so that it fits my playing style. Congrats on the new Strat, and good luck... you've come to the right place if you ever need any help, or if you ever decide to find a new owner for it.
Hello and welcome to the forum, Rizalhanafi. Good to have you join us. Congrats on that Strat you did well.
For a late 80s American Standard Strat? More like 700-900.......never anywhere near 1250....maybe asking prices though.....
Welcome, I am always pleased to hear that a lurker has decided to join the fold. That’s a nice Strat, should be a 1989 model https://www.guitarinsite.nl/serienummers-fender_eng.php
Looks nicer than a new one - the yellow is more subtle. Tell them to buy some more and put them in the storeroom.
Thanks for the welcome guys, I think you're correct. The 'E' in the serial do indicate 'Eighties'. However the '900' confused me a bit. I have seen somewhere (reverb?) strat with E92xxxxx dated back to 1987 production. Any idea how to get the most accurate date\year for my E900340 strat? That is quite true for the market in the USA. However here in Malaysia the shipping cost to send one from the states to Malaysia make it prohibitively expensive (USD189.00 upwards) and insecure based on inspections of photos. The same goes for Japs used imports. The market price of used USA made strats of the same era in my country is around USD1.5k. Current production models go for almost USD1.3k for the Performer to USD2.2k for the Ultra. Cheers again
