I recently purchased an older hot rod deluxe and I am looking for recommendations for a speaker. I would like a speaker with a loose mushy bottom. I know this is oppisite of what most people like. I recently listened to some sound clips of a jensen falcon 50 and I thought it sounded pretty good but I'm not sure 50watts is safe for my amp If it was cranked up.

50 watt rating should be fine for that amp. I had a Jensen P12n in my blues deluxe for a bit, never had a problem.

Not quite sure how best to match loose and mushy with a speaker but Eminence makes some speakers with a nice fat round bottom end.

I play a Cannabis Rex in a 60w Blues Cube although I'm typically not pushing it to the max for hours on end.

For something with more power handling capability the 150w Swamp Thing is another one to consider.

Both are fairly popular replacement speakers for Fender amps. Otherwise you might look at some Alnico speakers that might work out for you.

You're looking for alnico magnet, probably with a smooth cone, no edge dope, with the minimum power capacity that would handle your amp.

You might ask cj@tedweber.com Loose and mushy isn't what they typically strive for, but he could recommend Weber models. You can also have one built to order by them.

At full yodel square wave time...50 watts might go south.

It's big money...but a 90 watt AlNiCo Celestion Creamback might do the trick once it's broken in.

Cannabis Rex. It sounds awesome in that amp.
I only have my own as a data point, but I'm sticking with it.

A Celestion 50 'watter' is about the only speaker that will give you what you want. Norelco [Phillips] made a 35 'watter' [40W 'max'] Combo (12" Bass, with Wizzer Cone) that was a 'Full Range' (with passive bass) , but it was only rated for 35 Watts.

I like the vintage 30 for most of my applications.
I didn't find the stock speaker in my older HRD to be muddy.
Have you tried an EQ pedal?
Maybe try a transparent OD pedal in front of it may crisp it up.

For moderate dollars, I really like the Warehouse Guitar Speakers ET-65 that came in my Fuchs 1x12 cabinet. It’s well matched to my 50 watt Fuchs amp. WGS makes a 90 watt version (ET-90, natch) for 120 bucks.
