any recommendations? I've heard of some of the big guys making super hot single coils, but I'm more of the cheapo variety, never going to pay 100 or near it, for a single strat pickup.

Any ideas? Looking for a strat bridge PU that is single coil and high wound, handles heavy OD well. Not really looking for a Stacked/noiseless/hot rail type.

The Seymour Duncans/other big brands are just too expensive for me to consider.

    Hi, @nickmsmith -buddy

Bootstrap or Rose might be good quality choice.

What you're looking for doesn't really exist....when most manufacturers list a 'hot' single coil, they are only in the 6-7k range.....it's hard to find a 10k+ really hot wound single coil without going to higher end companies.....

Thanks! Seems like I can get a usable enough sound with a regular SC and using the tone knob.

Check out Bootstrap pickups. Made in the USA and great prices. I’ve never experienced them personally but people rave about them. They are next on my list to try when I need a new set.

I’ve also heard that he will custom wind something for you.

That could be a good option. I’ve heard good things too.. and can’t beat those prices. Thanks!

    .

find a G&L Strat style pickup.

Add a steel baseplate to the one you have, just like a Tele a Strat coil will give you higher output.
Make sure the steel plate is 1/8th inch or thicker for best performance.

Bareknuckle makes a 12.5 k single coil. It's the boot camp brute force.

Ended up ordering the Guitar madness version. That’s super hot wound. Under 20 bucks shipped.. worth the risk.

if it’s even “ok” it will be worth it.

I didn't see anybody put it up but Q pickups are hand- and custom-made in Croatia. He has a Reverb store and his single pickups are around $50 shipped. You'll have to wait 2 or three weeks but some of the sets he has for sale top 15kohms.

I support Q Pickups. Tihu, the man behind, is very responsive and knows his stuff. He winds to your specs. I would go a little lower (round 12k) or get a tapped one with 12 and 15k. In both cases it needs to see it 500k on the volume pot while the standard singles should see 250k.

I just installed a Lindy Fralin Vintage Hot (6.7K) in the bridge with a base plate on my Fender strat. It’s now more similar to my ESP GL-56 with a Pearly Gates humbucker and handles gain very well. I started playing Accept immediately :)
