Made a quick clip of the bridge pick up in my new DIY. Straight into my Jet City thruy a G12-65 !x12 cab. (Aside from the stiff playing) I think it sounds pretty good. Thoughts?

I know the clip was rough but I thought the tone was pretty good for the bridge pup - not harsh or piercing at least.

Sounds pretty good to me and pretty much what I expect from most strats really. As far as the clip being rough though, nah... the guitar and playing come across nicely I think.

Sounds fine. Not rough at all.

But....I'm hearing a lot of amp. Clean it up a bit, and we'll hear more guitar/pickup. :)

Thanks! I put the whole guitar together for about $120 (if you don't include my time) Listening to it I don't feel the need to upgrade the pups in the guitar though I figured I would if the project turned out well.

Thanks! Guess its that "clapton" school of blues in me pushin the gain.

Thank you! Guess I'm my own worst critic in my head... The pick ups are the most inexpensive chinese single coils you can buy. Loaded pick guard cost $18- go figure!

The more gain you use...the less the pickup matters. And ever since he started using that onboard mid-boost gain, IMO his tone suffered.

Yours doesn't have that mush to it, it's very "present". Try a Bell Bottom Blues tone...a little cleaner.

Ive had single coils in the past that just didn't seem to like gain -at least straight into an amp. They would sound bright and raspy without something like a TS9 between them and the amp. Very happy how these react. That said when I get a chance I'll try a clip with less gain. :)

Some of them need to be lowered to get rid of that raspy thing. Every type of pickup has a sweet spot.

We all settled pretty close to each others height though.

My 65 I run higher. They're really low wind and a bit weaker sounding. images (2).jpeg

The ones in this guitar must be pretty low wind. The DC resistance on them is below 4K but the ceramic magnets are strong so its probably why they sound better lower.

Ceramic singles always sound better low as they can go IME.
