I've been looking at some American standard strats and noticed that they now come equipped with Fat 50s pickups "out of the box". How long has that been going on? I bought an American strat in 2014 and changed out the pickups to the Texas Specials, but I still have the original pickups and want to know if they're Fat 50s.

They should have fiber bases not plastic bobbins and blue and red dots on one of the neck and bridge pole pieces.

They started putting them in the 2012 American Standard.

Fat 50s and Texas Specials do not sound almost identical.

I do not hear any similarity between TX specials and Fat 50's. Not even close. Other than that they both sound like single coil pickups. I'm happy with the Fat 50's by the way. Sold off the TX specials.

Me thinks 2012 . I just purchased an 11, and it doesn’t have them but still sounds great. Also 2012 started the aged plastic also.

Yip, agree 2012. I much preferred the old Am Std A5s to Fat 50s anyway. The Fat 50s that were in my 2014 Am Std are long gone.
