Here is how I would do it.
Calmly threaten their lives, remind them you know where they sleep. That you are very skilled with common power tools and no one will find the bodies.

Oh you have decent parents? Well mine sucked so disregard.

It's a shame that he didn't get a real '67 if that's what he thought he was buying,
but in any case the Vibro Champ sound is one that really didn't change in any significant way
when Fender went from the first blackface version to the silver faceplate or back to the blackface look imo.
(This opinion is based on my own personal experience with examples of all three variants; i'm a Vibro Champ fan).
Fender's tendency with each change from tweed to blackface to silverface was to increase the
amount of clean headroom across most of the amp line, but the low wattage Champ/Vibro Champ
circuit was never going to have a lot of clean headroom to begin with, and i don't think that
Fender ever considered those as much more than student/practice amps, so they probably didn't feel that
    the circuit needed extensive revision.

If you really want to get into the details, you can compare the schematics below for differences in the circuit.

    LOL, you're welcome!
And guess what? The more i hear them, the more i like them.
It's a very nice alternative to digital modeling if you're looking for something compact.

Generally tube amps like being turned on and heated up periodically to maintain their good health.
15 years is a pretty long time for one to sit dormant.
i'm happy to hear that it sounded good, but if you buy it you should definitely have the amp looked over
by a good tech just to make sure that all components are in decent shape and within spec.

So read this entire thing the whole 9 pages... Got some good laugh, got some life long stories, read some very disappointing posts...

@Colestrat, At the age you're at and with the maturity you're showing, I think you just need to talk it out with them. You want one, you have your reasons... they're sceptical/objecting to it.. they have their reasons. So my suggestion would be to generate the discussion. Don't try to convince them, try to listen and understand their point of view...

Don't get into counter arguments, just listen, take it in and walk away with the info without resolution. Let it simmer for a few days and try to come up with a middle ground offer that seems fair for all.
