Hey guitarists and fellow gear junkies, I'm a newbie to the Strat-Talk community but I need some technical help with some wiring mods to my guitar. I'm installing one of the newer superswitchs into my HSS strat to allow some more wiring mods. I am planning on doing the "autosplit" mod where position 2 has a split humbucker with the middle sc. I also wanted to add a DPDT toggle switch so I can split the humbucker on its own. Will these 2 mods fight with each other if the coil split is activated and I'm in position 2? If so is there any special wiring I need to do to change this?
Thanks for helping our the forum fledgling XD

I can't help specifically with wiring, but will tell you I like having coli split on its own switch and not having Position #2 auto split...but've never had auto split on #2...maybe it's awesome.
Position #2 sounds different with the humbucker split vs not and I use both ways.
I also think having the option for humbucker full or split on it's own is great.

I also recently wired a Custom Custom into a Strat with no splitting option and LOVE it. The bucker is awesome on its own and positions 2-5 are there for other stuff. The simplicity of a 5-way with no other switching can be refreshing if you have the right pickups.

Have fun whichever way it works out, there's no rules!

Split or auto-split is usually done by connecting the central humbucker coil-to-coil connection to ground. This can be with a separate switch or using the 5 way. If done like that, with both activated when in position 2, then it's split, but no ill effects from having two switches doing it at once.

You can usually do all that using a standard 5 way switch unless there are other things happening.

On my HSS, I have a different wiring but I can get both sounds at 2. I actually prefer the full Hb with M. Its just as quacky as with the split Hb with M, but a bit thicker. I think if I had a simple split switch, I wouldn't also do auto split.

Thanks guys! I'll probably wire the 5 way in the standard way and just use the coil split switch. :thumb:
