Since the passing of King Edward in October last year, been speculation about reunions, but someone needs to fill the enormous shoes of Eddie Van Halen. Here’s who I would pick in no particular order. Paul Gilbert Zakk Wylde Satch John Petrucci Steve Vai Dweezil Zappa Dimebag* (I wish) I even say Wolfgang VH as I’m sure he can play the riffs, I just haven’t heard him. Who would you choose?
They couldn't keep a reunion tour going while everyone was alive, I doubt they could do it now. But Zakk Wylde, Satch, Petrucci, or Vai could fill the shoes from a technical standpoint, not that I'd be tempted to go see it. DLR and Hagar are both mostly insufferable to me.
This kid would be the man for the job: Check out his channel, he has hundreds of videos. Happens to be from my area.
A VH reunion without Eddie would be utterly pointless; it would be like a Police reunion tour without Sting or going to see BB King's backing band with a fill-in. Just let it go, guys.
...or seeing Rush without Neil Peart. As great of a drummer as Alex is, face it - Eddie was the reason to go see Van Halen.
Yet people do Hendrix tribute concerts and even Zeppelin is supposedly going to tour and has done shows with Jason Bonham.
It will never happen but IF it did, the only way it would work is with a hologram show like they did with Dio.
I think Steve Vai Summed it up Best ----> Steve Vai: “I could never play like him… Only an idiot competes with Eddie Van Halen”
