Took both my strats to my tech for some seasonal adjustments. He knows I only play 10s (D’addario EXL110), but he accidentally restrung my E standard Strat with 9 gauge strings. Kept the 10s on the Eb Squire Strat.
I told him no problem and still gave him a tip but I planned to change the strings as soon as I got home. But I gotta say, I like 9 gauge better.

I’ve watched all the string tone/gauge videos. I know you should basically choose your gauge on what feels best. But I’ve been stubborn and not trying new things. Who knows what’s next? Maybe stainless steel frets.

    btw, favorite new-to-me song.

I have 9s on all my guitars. They just feel right to me. I can play 10s butthey aren't as comfortable

In the world of drumming the lower the # the thicker and heavier the stick. Played 5A or 5B for a while. Bought a pair of 7A's (similar to trying 9's instead of 10's) and haven't looked back.

I used to play 9s....but moved to 10s about two years ago...I prefer the feel of 10s more. Bends are nice and smooth...12s on acoustic and 12 flatwound on jazz box.

I started off on an acoustic and got so used to 12s that when I pick up a guitar with 9s, they feel like rubber bands to me. I tend to play with a minimum of 10s on my 25.5" scales, but I also like my 10s a little on the heavier side.

I bought in to the "heavier strings means more TONEZ" thing early on, but then I realized for what I do (constantly flip flopping between playing rhythm and lead), a hybrid set with heavier strings on the low end and lighter strings on the top end made more sense for me. Now a hybrid set (9-11-16-26-36-46) is the only thing that feels right to me.

Another one on the hybrid 9s, I think I’ve been using d’addario EXL125s since before time began

upload_2021-5-4_3-57-27.png These feel the best to me out of the 9s. Tried all the main brands. Slinky’s win IMO and of the slinky’s these are the smoothest under my fingers and are a little extra spring to em when brandy spankin new

I started on acoustic too, but then when I started playing electric, I played 9s and was fine with them for the 8-10 years I played a lot back then. This was 77-87 roughly. After 30 years of barely playing at all, I started up again about 4 1/2 years ago, a mix of acoustic and electric. And 9s just didn’t feel right, so I switched to 10s and haven’t looked back. Now I’m playing more acoustic than electric and even 10s feel a little light, but whenIve tried 11s or even 10s with heavier bass strings, it doesn’t feel even close to right. So 10s it is. There are no bends I really ever want to do that I can’t do with 10s pretty easily... And to me, they do sound better with a lot of vibrato, but then BB King played 8s and had the sweetest sounding vibrato of anyone ever... So I obviously don’t know what I’m talking about. But I like 10s anyway.

Shouldn't the title be "I'm weak"?

    Joke....:D

You won't be able to play the blues anymore. You have to suffer to play the blues...

    I only use 9's when I have to. Otherwise it's 008-038.

Half of my guitars got 9s and half got 10s.....i prefer mostly 9s but 10s are also useful to be there for any time and for whatever reason i wanna tune down.i would even use 8s happily if i could find them.

your guitar was setup for the 9's you did not want, changing to 10's will throw off all your adjustments you just paid for.
